so…our current insurance won’t cover prevacid…just omeprazole. Has anyone made this switch? I hope it doesn’t change anything. I’m going to have to give it without Buffer Babies for a few days while we wait for the refills to arrive.

I’m nervous about that too! I just seem to be worried about everything today…. Last night was so rough. I’m not sure what Finn reacted to. I found out he can’t tolerate vanilla last week and then realized that the rice milk i have been drinking is vanilla flavored. I also had some pesto…forgetting that he reacts to any nuts, and i’m sure it had pinenuts in it. ugh.

will i ever sleep?

oh…one more thing i’m scared about. I have to go back to work in January–teaching and waking up at 5:30. I’m worried that he’ll still be waking every hour!! i just don’t know that i’ll be able to face teenagers all day (or half a day) while severely sleep deprived…

I’m not sure, but if you give the prilosec a chance and it doesn’t work as ell as the prevacid, then I *think* the dr can then prescribe prevacid again and the insurance will then accept it? if not, you can always ‘fight’ if you really find the prevacid was better than the prilosec.

We went from omeprazole(prilosec) to prevacid. Prilosec did nothing for Averi. So, I would be hesitant to go from prevacid to omeprazole. Are you able to get zegerid? If I remember correctly zegerid contains omeprazole but it has no issues w/stability like a compounded prilosec does. Maybe your Dr. can get around the insurance issue b/c zegerid has omeprazole in it?! I’m so sorry you’re going through this w/your insurance company. I hope little Finn starts feeling better and sleeping through the night for Mommy! Good Luck!

Thanks. actually i’m getting the omeprazole packets (with sodium bicarbonate)–and I believe that is zegerid. At least that’s what I’m gathering from the marci-kids website. and unfortunately the insurance is medi-cal which is like medicaid…so there’s not much we can do about their coverage!
I’ll be back on employer based insurance in January and this should be easier. I just hope he’s sleeping by then. It just seems to get worse and worse (the sleeping).
