Hello there,
You might have read in the introductions that I am a mom of a three month old boy with reflux. He was diagnosed when he was a couple of weeks old due to weight issues. Ronan was put on Zantac and because he would not breastfeed, he has been fed expressed milk. He always spat up a lot, but otherwise did well. So well, the doctor took him off Zantac 6 or so weeks ago. Over the course of those weeks, Ronan’s reflux has gotten very bad. Besides constantly throwing up, he coughs, has hiccups and now does not want to eat very much. He has started screaming during feedings and when burped. he was always a great sleeper, but now that has changed too. I am going to my family doctor on Thursday and would love some advice as to what I need to ask her. Thanks!RachelNovember 17, 2008 at 4:54 pm #58771AnonymousInactiveHi & Welcome!
Have you started the zantac back up? If not, I would until you’re able to see the Dr. I would suggest going to a PPI(prilosec, prevacid, nexium). Zantac is an H2Blocker and a lot of times reaches a plateau, b/c it’s very weight senstive(dose needing to be increased when a few lbs are gained). Also, have you taken any foods out of your diet since you are breasftfeeding? Some babies who have reflux also have MSPI(milk/soy protein intolerance) and you may need to take those things out of your diet for a time to see if that helps improve any of his discomforts. You can find more info on the main forum page under TED(total elimination diet). His sleep has probably been disrupted b/c of his reflux pain. JMO, but I would go w/prevacid. My DD was on prilosec for a period of time w/absolutely NO improvement in her reflux pain, and since being on prevacid solutabs she has been doing GREAT! I sure some other mommas will chime in w/more advice. Good Luck! Keep us posted!

Yes, we have started him back on Zantac. We talked to the pharmacist about dose and he told us to up it to 1.0 mls from .66. I have not done the elimination diet, but will look more into that. My DH has a ton of allergies and I am afraid that my little guy may have this issue as well.

If they are food allergies I would look into that. You can do a scope and see if anything is going on as well.I would for sure, go back on the Zantac until you see the DR. then I would ask for some type of PPI. They are stronger and will do a better job of it. -
