I was just wondering if anyone has had any troubles with being able to hear and feel their baby’s stomach just rumbling…during and after feedings. I really don’t think that it is just gas. It sounds horrible and even other people that hold him say they can feel it when they have their hand on his belly.

My little guy has the rumbliest tummy. He has a hiatial hernia, and you can feel the food and bubbles going by under your finger.
His own gurgling digestive processes have woken him from sleep many, many times. The pediatrician said he’s just sensitive.
What we found helped:
1) Treatment for candida albans (yeast) infection – reduced rumbling significantly. Apparently it can infest the intestines without causing the usual thrush symptoms of the mouth.
2) Adding probiotic cultures to diet. Really helped.
3) Using Pollywog feeding wedge. Oh my is this a GREAT product. Only wish had known about it when he was younger. It really helps keep food down, also seems to lessen swallowed air.
4) Raised crib mattress on angle and using Tucker sling so that the rumbling and gurgling go down rather than force upwards into stomach and make reflux worse.
Will be trying different foods as he is now on solids and rumbling is increasing.

I second the suggestion to treat for yeast. It has helped us as well.we do probiotics and other natural stuff to treat yeast. It seems to help a bit.February 25, 2009 at 11:38 am #61270AnonymousInactiveI am so glad that you guys said something about the yeast infection b/c i wondered if that could be it b/c it happens when he gets thrush, but i have looked at other sites about thrush and nothing has ever been said about it. Thank you!

Thanks, Anne

My little guy has an umbilical hernia, not a hiatial hernia. (Although that would not be a bad question for the pediatrician.)
It was quite obvious when his belly button just popped out at 8 weeks of age. (It was such a lovely little “innie” before then.) The pediatrician told us he had strained so much with his reflux that it herniated.
Rumbly tummy has been further reduced by switching to Prevacid. Still doing the probiotics and watching for yeast infections.
