We bought Britax Marathon for our “primary” seat in my vehicle (where she will spend the huge majority of her traveling time). But I’d like to buy one that we could move inbetween DH, grandparents, and my sister’s (who watches DD 3 days a week) as needed. I can’t afford to buy another Britax or I would , so does anyone have any suggestions?

I want to rear-face as long as possible (30+ lbs). It doesn’t have to front face to 65lbs like the Marathon, but something more than 40lbs would be great. All of the trips would be no longer than 20 minutes so comfort isn’t a big priority like the primary seat. And like I said needs to be less expensive (maybe up to $125).

I at first was going to suggest the Graco Nautalis 3 in 1 but then I realized it is only forward facing (maybe a good option at $150 when you get to forward facing as it is a high back booster and regular booster as well and the harness is up to 65lbs like the Marathon) Anyway, Graco has some pretty good rear facing/forward facing seats that are about $75 and since they are short trips they might be a good option. We have a marathon in our primary car but didn’t buy a 2nd car seat until we were forward facing and when with the above mentioned Graco and Cooper really likes it when he is in it and it has cup holders which are handy. Good Luck… the car seat search can be such a pain.

We have Britax Marathons for both boys in my car but for dh’s car & MIL’s car we have Graco ComfortSport. It can be rear-facing up to 30lbs (we are big rear-facing as long as possible ppl too) & forward facing up to 40lbs.

I know you said you want something that can go higher than 40lbs but in general the suggestion is “40 inches and 40 pounds and 4 years old” to move to a booster. In most cases (@ least w/ my friends) the kids reach 40 inches & 4years old long before 40lbs so by the time they do reach 40lbs they are more than ready for a booster. Just my 2 cents.

Anyway, we love this carseat – it’s comfy for the boys & got great ratings for a less expensive option. Best of all: we got it for around $78 at Walmart!
