My LO Adam is 4 weeks today and has horrible reflux. He is on 10mg of compounded prevacid split morning anf night. He weighs 10lbs. Yesterday and this morning he is so congested the poor baby can barely breathe. I have suctioned him out and am getting green snot so I know he now has a cold. He doesn’t sleep more than an hour or so at a time anyway (grunting and squirming) with the belly issues and now he can’t sleep so I am getting none either. I also have a 17 month old and 3.5 year old.
My husband travels and left this morning. I completely had a melt down when he left. I just don’t know where to start or how to get through this all. I’m so tired I want to die. I know it doesn’t help to dwell on it, but seriously I am not sure I can physcially last. Surely my body will shut down at some point.I just need some support today.October 27, 2008 at 8:14 pm #58114hellbenntKeymasterhang in there! you’ve found the right place!
research and do what you can for your baby!please read this:Prevacid 101(last post on the page): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1where are you? you could use a good local babywearing group for some support!October 28, 2008 at 2:40 pm #58131AnonymousInactiveThanks. I am in St. Louis. I think it is possible that Adam also has apnea or just major complications from the reflux. He sleeps lightly and once he falls into a deep sleep, his breathing is labored and he even stops – then he wakes up (defense mechinism I’m sure). It is aweful. I sit here trying to rest, but can’t because I am listening to my baby struggle.
This happens in the swing, carseat or in his tucker sling. It doesn’t matter where. Thanks for the prevacid 101 – I was making him wait after his prevacid, but it seems like I don’t have to. That helps.October 28, 2008 at 4:37 pm #58135hellbenntKeymasterI actually posted it to forewarn you about your compound…it most likely isn’t being made properly….you are so close to marci-kids! well columbia isn’t THAT close, but still it’s the same state! I would call marci-kids and get caracream/bufferbabies (there’s a link from prevacid 101)
there’s a local babywearing group! lucky youif they ask for a referral or something to sign up, tell them hellbennt fromTBW (that’s the acronym for TheBabyWearer.com) sent youhellbennt2008-10-28 16:43:12
October 28, 2008 at 8:17 pm #58139AnonymousInactiveIs it possible that your ds has other intolerances than dairy? My ds’s labored breathing (he also seemed to be struggling to breath often) was directly related to intolerances. Went away completely once we got that figured out.
I would use saline drops liberally & only suction 2x/day. My ds also has a cold & major congestion right now & it’s awful.
I agree w/ Laura about the compounded. I would look into CaraCream.
Hang in there… how many days is your dh gone? It always helps to count down (@ least for me).
oops… edited to add: I definitely agree w/ babywearing. It was/is a godsend for us.

It is possible that he has intolerances, but doesn’t have any of the classic symptoms (mucosy, green or bloody stool). The doctors don’t think that he really has any intolerance at all. I am just eliminating dairy to see if it helps. I can’t do TED again (I did for 5 months with my DD last year) and it nearly cost me my marriage. My husband is against it and hated life when I wasn’t eating. I got down to 92 lbs also and it scared a lot of people. He said he could not handle me doing that again, so it’s breastmilk as I make it, or neocate for Adam. I am trying to keep him breastfed for as long as possible.
My DH is gone 3 days a week. He is gone for 8 days in a row in November! I am going to certainly loose it.I am trying to wear Adam, but he doesnt tolerate my Bjorn. He is ok in the sling, but I am not proficient yet.Edit: Adam was diagnosed with trachiomalasia (sp?) and Laryngiomalasia (sp?) as he had a horrible apnea spell the other day. We had a full day of testing at the hospital and now on top of the horrible reflux, he has this also. great…..November 2, 2008 at 1:58 pm #58254AnonymousInactiveBig hugs. Hang in there. I am sorry to hear he has been diagnosed with
trachiomalasia and Laryngiomalasia. Adam is very little, but you can probably start him on some probiotic (mix with his milk or water and given with a serynge). It might help his tummy feel better. Klaire labs and Kirkman labs have a good hypoallergenic probiotic formula.November 2, 2008 at 7:41 pm #58265 -
