Today I think I snapped. Janna is now having at least two major vomits per day I’d estimate 15-30mls worth in 1-3 heaves leaving us both soaked and a puddle on the floor. 30degrees hasn’t been quite upright enough for her – I almost need something that holds her vertical without ANY pressure on her stomach after a feed. Feeds themselves are not going well, I’m lucky if I get 100mls in her 2-3 feeds during the day. Most of the time it’s more like 30-50mls.
And the worst of it is, my mom has been over helping for two days and will be going home tomorrow (there goes my help again) and I really don’t feel like I’ve gotten a break – I feel tired and teary and angry and impatient.
We have a ped appt tomorrow and I’m going to DEMAND a PPI and a referral to a GI. I’ve really had enough.

I would say that is def what she needs! I think in Canada you can get Solutabs or maybe even capsules and Caracream (bufferbabies?) maybe a canadian mom can help out with that. You want something nice and stable!
Good luck!October 16, 2008 at 9:21 am #57752AnonymousInactiveI have been there! I will tell you that when we got to Neocate and to Prevacid for Dylan, it was so much of the answer. I will tell you he still spit up (occasional vomit) until well over a year old, but the pain was gone and I could actually enjoy him so much more!!!! I don’t know if the laundry problem goes away until they just get to a point that they can grow out of it, but the pain and discomfort should be focus #1 for you all.
Hang in there, know you can vent ANYTIME and we are all here to support you!!!!!October 16, 2008 at 10:52 am #57761AnonymousInactiveI remember that time…. it stunk!
Be firm with your doc. I’d check out http://www.marci-kids.com . Have an idea for what type of PPI you want, which brand, and the dose you’d like so you can tell your doc when you get there. My advise would be to either try prevacid fastabs (but you need to give on an empty stomach and follow up with a meal 30-45 minutes later) or prevacid capsules in CaraCream (aka bufferbabies which you need to order from marci-kids). But, because your dd is on anti-seizure meds, I’d be sure to check with your doc before ordering anything on your own. You might want to print off some of the marci-kids info, there’s a dosing page for docs. Given that your ped has kept her on zantac, chances are he’s kind of conservative. Good luck.October 16, 2008 at 6:47 pm #57773AnonymousInactiveShe is conservative.
We did get the PPI though. Everything in Canada is prescribed generic so I’m not sure what brand they’ll be using but she did prescribe omeprazole (Generic form of Prilosec and Zegrid) which apparently will be compounded by our pharmacy.
Thanks, I’ll check out marci-kids and see what it has to say about this form of PPI.
October 17, 2008 at 12:23 pm #57789AnonymousInactivePrilosec can be unstable in it’s liquid form so make sure it gets amde a a GREAT pharmaacy. That was the key for us.
I hope this makes the difference for you both. Those times are soo hard.October 17, 2008 at 4:33 pm #57813AnonymousInactiveYeah I think the Pharmacy messed up. It has flavouring and they used the 20ml instead of the 40ml preparation.
I’m going to try her on it and after the weekend our pediatrician is getting another call.
October 17, 2008 at 5:37 pm #57816AnonymousInactiveWhat do you mean they used the 20ml instead of the 40ml preparation?
October 17, 2008 at 11:05 pm #57820AnonymousInactiveoops that would have been more zegerid related, but they used the 20mg powder instead of the 40mg (MARCI seems to recommend the 40mg for Zeg in children under 2 years)
October 18, 2008 at 7:56 am #57821AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry to hear about your frustrations! I remember it all too well!
I just wanted to add that my daughter was on the 20mg packets from 4.5 months until she outgrew it at 18 months. It is harder to digest for some babies, but she did fine with it.I would also try to steer clear of a compounded form. They are SO rarely made correctly and I think you’re just asking for problems b/c it most likely won’t be as effective. GOOD LUCK!October 18, 2008 at 8:44 am #57823AnonymousInactiveJennifer, do you guys have zegerid, or compounded omeprazole? It’s not the same thing. Can you taste it?… is it minty peach flavour? That’s zegerid, which would be a good thing. I didn’t think it was available in Canada, but honestly, I’ve been kind of out of touch with the reflux world lately, so maybe it’s in Canada?
How long of a supply did they give you?October 18, 2008 at 2:05 pm #57831AnonymousInactiveWe were given a one month supply – sounds like we have Losec, I didn’t realize zegerid wasn’t the standard omprazole brand in Canada.
November 1, 2008 at 11:12 am #58229AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry. I hope the meds help, but I found the compounds after 3 weeks only helped occasionally. Our pulmonolgist does not recommend compounds because she said you are at the mercy of whoever is making it. She told our ENT doctor to stop prescribing it for that reason.
We were switched to the solutabs and he now sleeps longer than 20 minutes at a time. And he rarely pukes (I know the medication is not suppose to make any difference, but they did for him). He is now starting to feed more at a time as well, before I would be feeding him for 5 mins off of one breast every 1-2 hours. Now he is almost at a normal feeding every 4-6 hours. That is just what it has done for him in 3 weeks.
