MY 11-month-old son has reflux, but hasn’t had any symptoms since he was eight months old. We stopped his medication, and he did fine until recently. He just had his second bout with Rotavirus, and isn’t healing very quickly. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced recurring reflux after Rotavirus? Or has anyone experienced their child having reflux, then not having it, then having it again? He has all the symptoms again, such as irritability and arching his back when he is eating, refusing or eating only small amounts of foods, constant crying, and “wet burps”. He is not gaining weight, and I am pretty sure he has lost some since he contracted Rotavirus two weeks ago. HELP!

infection. Being sick definitely aggravates reflux majorly. Jack may
well need Prevacid again (and maybe an increased dose, 11mg is pretty
low) for a period of time before trying to wean again?I hope he feels better soon.

April 10, 2006 at 8:10 am #5781AnonymousInactiveThanks, Karen. I forgot to update my profile; he is taking 15 mg right now… well, since last Tuesday. How long before it starts taking affect again? Oh – and I tried Alimentum again starting yesterday (we were on that when he was first diagnosed), but he REFUSES to drink it… any ideas on how to make it taste better for him? I tried doing double strength with Pedialyte… thanks!

weeks to see results again. Can you use Zantac or Pepcid in the
meantime? Or at least Mylanta? Are you using the RTF? It does seem to taste better than the powder. At
his age, and since he got used to the Similac w rice, it may be tough
since his taste is more developed/particular now…April 10, 2006 at 8:32 am #5783AnonymousInactiveI am going to the doctor today, and I’ll ask about Zantac or Pepcid. I tried Mylanta last night, and just as I inserted the syringe in his mouth, he threw up. I’m not sure I want to try that again! Yes, I am using the Alimentum RTF… poor little guy. Just a note… he’s not just refusing the formula, he’s also refusing Pedialyte, Crystal Light, water… ack! I did get him to eat a Pedialyte Pop this morning, so he has had some liquids. This is so frustrating!
April 10, 2006 at 11:25 am #5788AnonymousInactiveSorry Jack is feeling so bad. Thought Ryann had a virus a few months ago, but it was really a delayed reaction to the milk proteins in the alimentum. We use probotics after a bought of sickness to put the good bacteria back in their systems. Its a scary thought that the reflux has returned. I often wonder if they will have problems throughout life, I know my reflux comes and goes. Hope you get some meds soon so he will start eating again!
April 10, 2006 at 7:59 pm #5843AnonymousInactiveAn update – We saw the doctor this morning who increased his Prevacid to 30 mg (15mg twice a day), and moved him to a lactose-free formula and he has been so much better today. YAE! He is eating, and not crying as much. I hope this continues! Thanks for all your input… it really helped me when I needed answers.
