I am new to the forum and realize everyone situation is different so I thought I would post what is going on with my son and would appreciate any opinions.
Our son was in ICU for blood sugar issues the first week after birth. He began spitting up in the hospital and they changed him to Similac Advanced to Similac Sensitive. He is now seven months old and has since been on the Alimentum, Good Start, and has been on the Isomil Advance the past few months. Originally he was also very colicky and the Advance seemed to solve that part so we stuck with it even though it hasn’t done anything for the spit up. He was in the 25% percentile for weight at 3 and 6 months. He has been on number 1 and now number 2 foods for since 4 months of age. He had a barium procedure done at 5 months to check how the formula went through the system and they said his anatomy was ok. At 7 months he went to a gastro specialist and she does not want to do a scope procedure unless he is still spitting up at a year. He has been on increasing doses of Zantac and is now at 2 ml twice a day. He tried Prevacid but it made him extremely fussy both day and night. He has never slept through the night and is usually up anywhere from 1-3 times a night. We have tried to stop the nighttime feedings but sometimes that is the only thing that makes him settle down. He spits up a number of times after each feeding and also does something the specialist said she had never seen before. Many times instead of spitting up the formula will come up and sit in the back of his mouth. Many people who see him do this think he is choking but it will sit there for 5-10 seconds until he needs to take a breath at which time he will swallow it back down.
If anyone has any thoughts on our situation we would appreciate opinions.
Thanks.
