My DD had her upper & lower endoscopies on the 21st of Aug and ever since then has had loose/mucousy stool. At first I just associated it to the enema and then her teething…I’m just curious, is it “normal” for infants to have mucousy stool at all? We haven’t changed anything in her diet, so I’m a little confused as to why her stool has been SOOO different. Here & there her stools are normal looking & then the next will be runny w/mucous. Her allergy (RAST) testing came back & was negative, but the allergist now wants to do PATCH(?) testing(I’ll post about that in a diff. post). So, could she be showing signs of an intolerance/allergy? She has also had the WORST yeast/diaper rash since having her endoscopies. I’m assuming due to the loose stool. Could the rash also be a reaction to something? I didn’t think too much of it at first, but she has been pooping up a storm and they’re either normal, runny, or mucousy. Before her endoscopies she was being treated for DGE(per symptoms), but now has NO problems pooing, several times a day. I was just curious what your thoughts were. TIA!
Off to post about the allergy testing…September 14, 2008 at 9:57 pm #56601AnonymousInactiveMy son had really green mucousy stools + super stinky gas for the 24-48hrs after his upper & lower endoscopies. His diapers had regulated & were normal up until that point & then went back to normal within 2-3 days after.

It may be nothing, but you’ll be able to rule out some nasty stuff. My baby had runny, mucsousy stools a lot (sometimes they would be normal). I asked 3 different GIs to test him for parasites, c-diff etc. They didn’t. The forth one I asked finally did, and he tested positive for C-Diff. And that has been a whole different battle that could have been much easier to beat had we known about it earlier.

She just recently started up w/looser stools again. BUT I know it is due to her teething, once again. I’ll be sure to ask at her next appt. Is it easy to test for?
