Carson has been teething like mad. He is not eating well and the past 2 days he has been grunting like crazy, to the point if you or I did it we would strain something. Red face, screaming and rubbing his blanket in his face and straightening his legs. He is not pullng at his ears. He has been a little snoty for 2 days. He has ad regular BM’s and wet diapers. Reflux is about the same but not worse. Drulling has been at a constant level. Holding him doesn’t help.
This just sounds like something else besides teething to me. I have raised 2 and none were in this much distress. He is 7 months and has not cut any teeth yet.Any ideas, please let me know.Carsons_MomKM 2008-09-12 12:15:12 September 12, 2008 at 12:18 pm #56476AnonymousInactiveIs he breastfed or formula? I cannot remember, but for some reason BF sticks out with your username to me. If BF, have you eaten anything new lately? Grunting for my boys was always intolerance!
Also, you said he’s been snotty….cold-like symptoms? Just keep an eye on him for labored breathing and stuff. Not to scare you, but this IS the start of RSV season. Again, not a scare, just a warning on that. last year Landen got it in early Sept.have you or the baby been on antibiotics recently (i ask you b/c I “assume” you BF- that’s the only reason I ask about you) if so, just check his mouth for thrush- white on the tongue that does not come off with a washcloth. Thrush can make them pretty miserable. My guy made grunting, growling and throaty noises and was miserable!edit/add: if none of the above seems like it could be it: teething can make them crazy and make reflux pretty bad. there were times we had to increase meds just to get through teething. Esp with molars and eye teeth.I am all out of ideas!!! HUGS!!!jilly782008-09-12 12:20:12
September 12, 2008 at 12:24 pm #56477AnonymousInactiveThanks for being so quick Jill
He is formula fed and nothing has changed.Only a little snotty at night, no fever or anyhting else.No thrush, or anything else. I am out of answers too but thanks for trying. I am taking him to the MD just to be sure we dont have to fight the ER over the weekend! He is on two40 mg doses of nexium per day- not sure they can increase. Thats way above normal.???????September 12, 2008 at 12:29 pm #56479AnonymousInactiveMy goodness. Maybe an Ear infection? I agree, take him in. Maybe the little bit of congestion got to his ears already. Sometimes JUST refluxing can cause EI’s. Better safe and have him checked out today than worry about the ER this weekend!! Good luck!! Let us know what they say!
And yes, that is a good strong dose of Nexium. I knew there was something about your username I remembered! LOL. That was it! 🙂jilly782008-09-12 12:30:52
September 12, 2008 at 1:37 pm #56480AnonymousInactiveI agree that taking him in is probably the best option for right now. I will say that when Cooper was cutting his first 2 teeth (he was early at 4 months old) but he was absolutely miserable and cranky and just a “pill”. so he could be on the verge of some teeth coming through. If you find out that he doesn’t have an ear infection, I would give him tylenol/motrin around the clock for 24hrs and see if that helps. (around the clock for me means alternating every 4hrs with one or the other unless he is sleeping… I never wake a sleeping baby!) Good Luck.

MD didn’t see anyting wrong. The exam was fine, no ear infection or anythig! I just can not believe it is his teeth! The MD even checked for impaction but that was negative. He couldn’t believe he was so miserable either. He said just to watch him and come back in if anything changed or I noticed any of the major medical signs. He rx’d Levsin in case it was IBS. So I guess we try that and see……Thanks Ladies!September 13, 2008 at 11:59 am #56515AnonymousInactiveAshlynn gets like this when she is teething.
September 13, 2008 at 1:27 pm #56516AnonymousInactiveOh my! Which teeth are they? Landen was pretty horrible (far far far worse than my first son) with eye teeth and molars. Also to the point that I thought something was just severely wrong. I paid specialist copays to have his tubes checked b/c I swore one was coming dislodged or had water stuck in it or something. But it was just his teeth. It’s crazy! Some of them are JUST PLAIN MISERABLE when teething.
I hope they pop through soon, for both of your sake!September 14, 2008 at 5:26 pm #56584AnonymousInactiveUpdate…..
We tried the Levsin and it worked gret EXCEPT for the fact he did not sleep for 10 hours. So we will not be using it again. Going to call MD tomorrow to see if there is another RX for abdominal cramps. He didn’t do any of the grunting yesterday?????? I am wondering if the high dose of Nexium is making him cramp?????September 14, 2008 at 8:11 pm #56588hellbenntKeymasterI don’t know about cramping, but I DO know that lots of mamas here have found probiotics to work WONDERS. sounds like they couldn’t hurt?
