I keep seeing symptoms for mspi is distress what exactly is distress?

I’m not sure about the meaning of “distress”. I can tell you my little mans symptoms when his MSPI was untreated.

Grunting

Extreme congestion

Excema on cheeks and earlobes

Straining to pass soft stools

Inconsolable non-stop crying

We treated it by switching to an elemental formula, Elecare. That was the best thing we have ever done for him. In addition to the right dose of meds, the Elecare has made a huge difference in his disposition and in his general well being.

edited to add: my ds had a fecal hemoccult test done by the GI and it was positive. The GI tested it again after my ds had been on Elecare for 2 months and the hemoccult was negative. This is definitely how we knew he is MSPI. Most pediatricians can do the fecal hemoccult in their office. SUPER SIMPLE TEST. All you need is a dirty diaper.
