So we’re fairly new to solid foods for my LO. We’ve been slow and cautious. We have just tried some allergen-free rice cereal with formula for a few days and sweet potatoes that I baked, pureed, and added liquid for thinned consistency for a couple of days.
So my question is this (sorry a little descriptive)…what does a baby’s poo look like when they start eating solids? With both things she has ate it’s like we can still clearly see it in her poo. Like the rice, we could clearly see all the flakes. And with the sweet potatoes, any bits that weren’t pureed were there, even tiny bits. I know with adults you can’t really tell what a person ate by their BM (except like corn or nuts or something), but is it different for a baby? I mean by looking at her BM’s you can tell exactly what she ate!??!?Is her body not digesting stuff normally/completely, or is this how it is for babies? Thanks!September 5, 2008 at 1:43 pm #56134AnonymousInactiveCooper’s poop still has times where we know what he ate. Especially if he doesn’t “chew” it well. The best example for us is blueberries and even green beans. We had a “whole green bean” one time which was really gross. But I think that as they get older that gets better. And I did notice that it improved even more when we were off meds. Dh who is a pharmacist pointed out that b/c the prevacid is killing the stomach acid the food doesn’t have that acid to keep breaking it down so that may have something to do with it as well. HTH.

About the sweet potatoes – I will say (& this may be tmi-sorry ) that when I was still eating a lot of them during TED I could clearly see them in my poo.September 8, 2008 at 4:43 pm #56259AnonymousInactiveI have noticed that the foods that my kids “pass” into thier stool are often the same foods they have trouble digesting. I have just started my 6 month old on solid foods. I don’t see sweet potatoes in his stool, except in the color. I do however see what looks like undigested squash. And I can say for sure that squash makes him uncomfy. He seems ok with bannans, no bannas in his stool. I think in general cereals can be tough for babies to digest. None of my babies have been able to have cereals until close to a year…I think they were lacking the enzymes needed to break it down. They just got really gassy and…..you guessed it, had undigested cereal in thier stool. Could just be a coincidence, could just be my strange children…who knows. Just thought I would share my exerieince.
Good luck. -
