so it’s been a long time since I posted, after being put on Zegerid Joe is now a happy 18mth old. but our new insurance is refusing to cover the drug and our GI is being dumb and instead of filling out the form offered by ins co, they just want to switch his meds!!! (back to Prevacid that he’s already been on and didn’t work) this cannot happen! it’s this drug that’s keeping him happy and healthy. we tried weaning him from it last month with disastrous results. we’ve finally gotten him happy and *almost* normal looking and now this. we bought the Zegerid oop yesterday (gag) and we can’t afford to keep doing it as my cc will eventually max out what can I do?
as Laura always says….a Fax usually works best in communicating this stuff to the GI.
Fax a nice letter…short but sweet to them explaining that prevacid did not work in the past. You tried recent zegerid wean with bad results and Joe needs to stay on zegerid. Please fill out necessary forms (maybe refax the forms along with your letter) and a big THANK YOU
call later to see if Dr rcvd your fax and has he sent the forms to your ins co yet.
Anne-that stinks big time! My advice is to also think about the employer carrying the insurance. If they are self insured (a lot of companies are and you just don’t know it because they go through a Third Party Administrator who is also a large insurance company for plan administration), you might have some chance to get them to make an exception to an exclusion-it wouldn’t hurt to try yours or your DH’s benefits department. You might run into a brick wall, but then again, you might luck out! Good luck!
