Drs. Jayashree Mani and Allan Frank.

Dr. Manihas been DD1’s doc for 4 years, has a great bedside manner and is very attentive. Now with DD2 (11 weeks tomorrow), we’ve together been troubleshooting her suspected GERD since about 3 weeks of age. First course of attack, she prescribed Prevacid Solutabs, and was comfortable adjusting dose.

Dr. Frankis another of the 7-8 Pediatricians in the practice. When I took DD2 in on the weekend during urgent care hours because of continuing GERD pain, he immediately prescribed the Zegerid/Water/MCS compound, and the instructions given were those of MARCI-Kids (that being said, he had DD2 start at 3ml dose whereas Dr. P suggests anything less than 3.5 is a waste of time).
Dr. Mani was hesitant to increase the Zeg dose up to 3.5 before DD hit the correct weight, explaining how some acid is necessary for the destruction of bad bacteria in the gut, and noting higher doses may also cause stomach irritation, but had alternative methods to try in the short term (thickening of formula, addition of H2RA in between PPI doses).
Dr. Mani always takes time in consults to make sure all of your questions are answered, never speaks “down” to you as a mom or is condescending, and is never dismissive (in my experience). If she disagrees with something, she offers an explanation why. She also (which I think is GREAT) mentioned in our last consult that what just a decade or so ago was mostly dismissed as colic was probably actually reflux…that colicky babies actually have a signature “colic cry” that differs from GERD babies. To me, that shows that she PAYS ATTENTION. Conservative approach with meds, but willingness to experiment and partner with parent to problem solve. Great doctor. (Laura, please feel free to edit this down if this is too lengthy for the database!). (GERD aside…I highly recommend this pediatrics practice for Austin parents. Although I’ve never had my kids see her personally, this is the office where Dr. Ari Brown, the co-author of the “411” series of parenting books, practices. The office has great, friendly staff and amazing hours.)

Hi there.  We went to Dr. Sandra Escalera in North Haven, CT.  she will start lower, but is usually willing to go up to where you need to be on PPI’s.  She also has children of her own and we really have loved her for both boys…. NY/CT: New Rochelle NY & Norwalk CT

Dr Nanci Pittman.  She is GREAT. She is not that good at answering phone calls etc but once you see her, her office will fit you in if you need to see her + she put Matthew on the correct dose of Prilosec/Prevacid to start with…. so that is worth something!

My pediatrician is awesome. Very supportive and helpful! Brandon’s reflux isn’t so mucj and issue anymore so it is not the main topic during his appointments.
What really helped me during his bad reflux days were a few things: this website, blogs from moms, and the book colic solved.
I did a ton of reading and research and learned as much as I could and just kept reading what other moms were saying, they know best!
My doctor does “know” what medicine Brandon is on. He asked and I said compounded Prilosec and I did tell him the dose. I didn’t tell that it was tummy care, not for any reason but he didn’t ask. Hope this helps!

he did give me some good tips, but fought me on the medicine and would not increase dose or believe me that Brandon was suffering and in pain. He kept trying to tell me he was Colic!!! It drove me crazy. That is when I found tummy care and it worked wonders. Needless to say I never went back to the GI. Okay…. If there was no tummy care and, knowing what I know now, I would probably make my own mixture using the recipe on the site. I use the high Marci kids dosing. hellbennt2013-06-10 08:19:32
