hey everyone.. i was wondering if shane is alone with this.. or if anyone else has seen their “past” refluxer do this. whenever he laughs hard or cries ..he seems to reflux a little. i can hear it come up as he is crying or laughing. is this normal? does this mean he still has reflux? its the only time i really see/hear anything that reminds me of the old days..
just curious.thanks:)August 26, 2008 at 7:36 am #55726AnonymousInactiveI haven’t noticed Sarah do that, but biologically I guess it would make sense! Both laughing and crying can be pretty intense and I can see how it would cause reflux to flare! Does he seemed bothered by it?
I love your new tickers!!August 26, 2008 at 8:45 am #55730AnonymousInactiveEvie almost always hiccups when she laughs hard, so I suppose it’s along the same lines. I was actually wondering about that myself though, so I am curious to see what others say.
August 26, 2008 at 8:55 am #55731AnonymousInactiveI have noticed it when Landen cries hard. Even last week he fell on concrete and scraped his knees really bad and he was refluxing while crying. That same glerping/hiccuping sound (like a silent reflux). I’ve always noticed this with him when he cries. It always stops when he finally calms down. I think it’s just an anotomical thing…..when they are that worked up and their stomach is spasming from the hard crying I guess it’s pushing everything up. that is always how I justified it to myself anyway!! If it happens close to bedtime, I give him half a pepcid complete to chew up. I HATE the sound of it though, there is always a panic in me when I hear it.

We are fortunate that Cooper doesn’t cry often and if he does it is for a BIG reason so I will have to be more attentive with that to see if he hiccups or refluxes after. He did spit up several times yesterday but I think he had an upset tummy… I gave a 1/2 of a kids tums and no more spit up!… makes you wonder.
August 26, 2008 at 10:31 am #55740AnonymousInactiveWe have that here. Especially with crying, but hard laughing too. Our doc told us that it’s typical for a refluxer even once it’s not an issue anymore… pretty much that it’s always their weak point and typically are the kids that vomit from too much crying as well.
August 26, 2008 at 4:10 pm #55751AnonymousInactiveYeah, I definitely hear it when she gets herself worked up crying. It’s the old glurp sound I remember from her baby days. I can’t tell if it hurts her or not though.
As for laughing, I never really noticed.
August 26, 2008 at 4:12 pm #55752AnonymousInactivei would think that both laughing and crying could cause reflux in a former refluxer. a couple of years ago kassie would have trouble with her normally controlled reflux when she would play soccer. i think it is just the extra jostling around that laughing, crying, running, etc. can cause. the gi suggested to kassie that she take a swig of liquid antacid before practice.
