laughing/crying and reflux

I haven’t noticed Sarah do that, but biologically I guess it would make sense! Both laughing and crying can be pretty intense and I can see how it would cause reflux to flare! Does he seemed bothered by it?

I have noticed it when Landen cries hard. Even last week he fell on concrete and scraped his knees really bad and he was refluxing while crying. That same glerping/hiccuping sound (like a silent reflux). I’ve always noticed this with him when he cries. It always stops when he finally calms down. I think it’s just an anotomical thing…..when they are that worked up and their stomach is spasming from the hard crying I guess it’s pushing everything up. that is always how I justified it to myself anyway!! If it happens close to bedtime, I give him half a pepcid complete to chew up. I HATE the sound of it though, there is always a panic in me when I hear it.

We have that here. Especially with crying, but hard laughing too. Our doc told us that it’s typical for a refluxer even once it’s not an issue anymore… pretty much that it’s always their weak point and typically are the kids that vomit from too much crying as well.

i would think that both laughing and crying could cause reflux in a former refluxer. a couple of years ago kassie would have trouble with her normally controlled reflux when she would play soccer. i think it is just the extra jostling around that laughing, crying, running, etc. can cause. the gi suggested to kassie that she take a swig of liquid antacid before practice.
