Averi had her upper & lower endoscopies this past Thurs. She was a real trooper. Poor baby was miserable for the first hour after, but eventually calmed down once she got all that gas out of her.
The GI said that everything looked fine. He didn’t see any signs of scaring, ulcers, allergy. He said that any irritation was healing. So, that’s all good. Plus, he called Fri evening w/her biopsy results. Everything Good there as well. So, we’re going to switch her to prevacid solutabs in hopes that maybe it’s just that the prilosec wasn’t the right med for her. She’s still eating poorly (15-20oz/day). AND having a hard time passing stools, even though soft. The results for the allergy testing should be back in the next few weeks. I have a feeling it’ll be negative anyways. Especially w/the possibilities of false negatives. So, I’m just hoping that the solutabs help her for now until she grows out of it.OH, I forgot to mention that when the GI and I were discussing meds I mentioned that the reason we went w/the compounded prilosec was b/c it was the only med she could take w/food. B/C she absolutely will not take any med by itself. HE then said to me…“Even the compounded prilosec should be given on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30min later.” Has anyone else heard of this? I was baffled. My ped said it could be given w/food and everything I’ve read on here says that too, if compounded. So, I’m hoping that he’s right and that it’s just that Averi wasn’t improving b/c it was being administered wrong.I feel like we’re back at square one. I’m glad there’s nothing “wrong” but not knowing what to do to make her better is so depressing.Has anyone else had a baby who used to eat really well & then all of a sudden began eating so poorly? Do they just outgrow it? Is it just b/c the meds aren’t enough? I just don’t know what to do, if anything. Is it possible that the solutabs may not work? He’s only giving her 15mg/day to be split into 2 doses. She’s just over 17lbs now. He said that was all the higher he would go w/it for her weight. I’m just so fearful that this will be too little and then what?August 25, 2008 at 3:23 pm #55708AnonymousInactiveHUGS!! Those are the same results we got for my little guy and I was so upset. I just wanted something to be wrong with him so they could fix it. I am not sure about the compounded dosing instructions, sorry.
Looking back, my ds just needed the high dose of Prevacid. My ped GI won’t do the high dose either. He thinks its a “horse dose”. I faxed and faxed my pedi until she FINALLY upped his dose to 30mg. It really really makes a HUGE difference. So, maybe bug your pedi with the Marci-kids stuff? My ped GI did tell me when Nicholas was younger that little babies sometimes have a hard time passing stools even though the stools are soft. Something about the littler ones not being able to relax the muscles on the floor of their pelvis very well. I am not sure if this is true or not. I think this was just for babies 6 months and younger.Again, HUGS!!August 25, 2008 at 4:19 pm #55709AnonymousInactiveI think giving it 30 min. before a meal is best.. compounded or not. i know they say compounded you dont need to .. but i always had best results when i waited.
August 25, 2008 at 9:39 pm #55719AnonymousInactiveWe have always been told to give the PPI’s on an empty stomach.
the reason is this….A PPI is desgned to help stop the Proton Pumps int he stomach from overproducing acid. They, PPIs, can do that better when the stomach is empty. We have always given it empty even though JEdd’s Priolsec is compounded. As a matter of fact I stay up until at least 10:30 each night so he can get his dose in the tube on an empty stomach….:)One of the perks of having a tube….giving meds while the child is asleep…aaahhhh….that’s soo nice….August 25, 2008 at 9:41 pm #55720hellbenntKeymastercould have been ‘just’ your compound wasn’t ‘good’?
I hope the prevacid works for her!so glad to read you’ve gotten some results!August 26, 2008 at 8:26 am #55728AnonymousInactiveYeah, it’s just frustrating when ur Ped. tells u one thing and then u find out later that it’s best a different way. I’m hoping the prevacid works for her too!! Quick question…She got her morning dose of Prilosec this morning, but I’ll be picking up the solutabs in a few. Is it ok to start them tonight? Or should I wait until the morning? Is she gonna get miserable all over again b/c the prilosec will be out of her system and it may take a few weeks for the prevacid to kick in? Anything I should give her in the meantime? TIA!
