My daughter, Audrey, is now 4 months old. She has had terrible issues since 1 1/2 weeks old. She screamed and projectile vomitted, while writhing in pain for the first two months. We are now on an elimination diet and 30mg of Prevacid a day. It appears she is intolerant to at least dairy, egg, nut, beef, and pork. Some days are better than others. We have enjoyed some good times, and since we have begun working with a therapist, her development is catching up. She was having a hard time developing while coping with so much discomfort. We cosleep so we can all survive. She is extremely attached to me, particularly when she is tired. She is 4 months and does not sleep more than 1-3 hours at a time. We just began some probiotics this week and I think I am starting to see an improvement on her gas. She was waking around 3 or 4am and then squirming and passing explosive gas until about 6 or 7am. I don’t beleive her prevacid dose is working well enough. We recently tried a combination of prevacid and zantac, but that failed. She does not do well on the zantac and it doesn’t seem to do anythign for her. Last night she had her evenign dose around 7:30 pm and I broke down and gave her her morning dose at 2:30am–it was the only thing I could do to help her this morning (I did not notice the gas this morning however). I saw clear relief about 20 minutes after the medicine–this makes me think it was more reflux than food intolerance last night. I’m always guessing though. I’m tired, and frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

You have found an amazing place here!It sounds like she could def use a higher dose of the prevacid. What form of prevacid is she on? Is it compounded or is it a delayed release kind like capsules or solutabs? If it is delayed release, then you need to be giving it on an empty stomach and then following it up with a feeding 30-60 minutes later. It is crucial to do it this way for it to work properly. Also, many docs underdose and you probably realized how bad the dose needs to be increased when you gave her the early am dose that you did and saw that it helped out. It took 30mg prevacid AND an h2 blocker (pepcid) to control my son’s acid (he also has MFPI).Marci kids website has a lot of info on the proper dosing amount for your babies weight.here is their web address, their site was down for a while, but it appears to be back up and running:Hang in there, this reflux and intolerance thing is really tough, but it DOES get better and it can be well controlled when you figure out the right dose for them and what they can eat. And we can help!August 23, 2008 at 1:59 pm #55638hellbenntKeymasterAugust 25, 2008 at 12:26 pm #55702AnonymousInactiveThank you very much for the great resources. I am going to look into the caracream. I have to do some more reading on this, but it sounds like it iwll work better than adding juice to her medicine! I am still questioning changing or increasing her meds though–we are definitley not making the 12 hour gaps.
