Hi there! I’m new to the site and to infant reflux. My baby is 10 weeks old and has been having problems eating for the past month, with it getting worse and worse every week. He will now only take in a good amount during the night (i.e. midnight and around 4 in the morning). Any other time I try to feed him (I nurse exclusively) he starts screaming and crying after a minute or two, and won’t eat anymore, even though he acts like he’s hungry and roots around for the nipple. Very frustrating and heartbreaking! We think he has silent reflux because I can hear something come up from his throat and then he swallows and gets upset.
Anyway, sorry for the long introduction to this topic… my question is about mixing Zantac and that Cherry Mylanta Supreme that I’ve read about in this forum. My dr. prescribed Zantac twice a day, but my baby really hates the taste and ends up trying to spit most of it out of his mouth. I’m afraid he’s not getting enough of the medicine down. Would mixing it with Mylanta help with that? How much Mylanta and how would I go about mixing it? He doesn’t take a bottle right now, only nurses. Also, should I give it to him before he nurses or after? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Another thing you can do is squirt the zantac far back in his mouth in his cheek and then either blow in his face or hold his nose… either way he will swallow and get the meds. We never had to do this, but I know many moms on here that had to do this regularly.

I put it in between her cheek and gums far back and dont have much problem. if it doesnt work that way try mixing it better in a little dish because i know my daughter loves the taste of pure cherry mylanta, she sucks it out of the syringe. My ped said i could give 1/2 teaspoon of mylanta with every feeding, 4 times a day if i need to. My daughter is 11 lbs and 11 weeks. i usually give about 1/4 teaspoon ( 1 ml) mylanta once a day because we are currently switching from zantac to prilosec as zantac stopped working. good luck. I give it before she eats.CKB6292008-08-14 14:26:29
August 14, 2008 at 4:11 pm #55355hellbenntKeymasteryes you can mix the zantac & the mylanta
use a 1ml syringe and draw up the zantac then draw up some mylantaor just mix the 2 in a little medicine cup (like what comes w/ nyquil- or children’s liquid, etc) and then draw it upI like the 1ml syringes bcse they are skinny & you can squirt along the inside of the cheek- just squirt a little at the time, far back by the throat & slide syringe across tongue to other side & squirt some more- back & forth- I say back and forth bcse then you ‘surprise’ baby & lessens chance of spitting it out…hellbennt2008-08-14 16:12:04
