ON the prevacid? I dont know ladies…Catelin had been on 30mg of Prevacid for 10 days and though there seems to be perhaps a tiny bit of improvement, we are still have a rough go of it. In fact, some night s are worse then before Prevacid. She’s unhappy a LOT, still cant fall asleep on her own and just cant stay asleep long enough to nap. Of course the Prevacid is now constipating her again(was under control prior to). I have a script for enulose but it doesnt seem to be working. Does anyone know if there is a wait time between enulose and Prevacid? Aslo, she is spittin gup a TON more then she used to. Is this a good sign or just a sign of things worsening? My ped is skeptical of the high dose Prevacid because the GI doesnt recommend it(he published the go to book on ped gastro disorders used by the nation) but is willing to give it a few weeks. Any insight on what to expect after being on the med this long(or short)? Is this a lifetime sentance because I certainly feel like it’s not going away anytime soon.
August 6, 2008 at 8:59 am #55079AnonymousInactiveThe Prevacid may take 2 full weeks to show improvement. I am not sure how long you have been on the Neocate, but that may take 2-4 weeks to show full results. Hang in there!
Also, if by the 2-4 week marker she is not showing signs of improvement, I would have her scoped by a ped GI. Just to make sure you guys are not missing something. HUGS!!August 6, 2008 at 9:04 am #55080AnonymousInactiveKristen, we’ve been on Neocate for 5+ weeks now. Can the Prevacid take even longer to work considering we didnt get on it until she was 14 weeks old? Looking for any sign of hope here…
August 6, 2008 at 12:50 pm #55089AnonymousInactiveJust a couple things…
I agree w/ Kristen about the scope if it doesn’t improve in the next wk or so… however (& this is just me) I would use her comfort level during awake time as a gauge, not her quality/quantity of sleep. You’ve been on Prevacid (total) long enough to see results. Eventhough it’s only been 10 days of the 30mg she’s been on it (if I remember correctly) for at least a mth total. Finally, please remember that she is still very young to be self-soothing & falling asleep on her own (w/o paci, bottle/nursing, rocking, thumb sucking, etc). Most babies don’t figure this out until at least 4 mths old & many 6mths+. And in my experience the naps (& even nighttime sleep in some cases) don’t start lengthening until the baby is falling asleep independently. I know it’s frustrating & hard right now but I just want you to have reasonable expectations for your LO @ this age.Good luck… I was thinking about you the other day & wondering how you all were doing!erinntx 2008-08-06 12:53:53 August 6, 2008 at 1:12 pm #55090AnonymousInactiveIve been to two GI’s-one said she just has gas and the other said whatever it is(possible reflux, colic or an “eating sensitivity”)-she’ll grow out of it. There is no desire to scope her-in fact when I mentioned it to the GI he said it’s not necessary(they are SO tough, since she’s gaining wieght they dont feel her issues are long term or urgent). So, there goes that. Catelin had been on Solutabs for 4 days before we quit because she reacted. We’ve now been on capsules for 10-with 2 weeks in between from when we stopped the solutabs and started the caps. we do think we’ve seen some improvement, it’s just been very small and then last night REALLY threw us! W/ regard to sleeping or soothing-it’s not that I expect her to do either-it’s just that she physically can’t STAY asleep for more then a couple of minutes if not in my arms. We have been seeing some improvement here as well. My reason for posting was more out of curiousity as to whether or not some moms still saw some bad days while in the first few weeks of being medicated and if they’re lo’s improved in baby steps.. not soley leaps and bounds. Unfortunately we are also fighting this constipatino issue which can make the lines shift-we just can’t always tell what the source of her discomfort it…
Thanks!!August 6, 2008 at 1:48 pm #55094AnonymousInactiveAnother thing is that reflux tends to peak around 4-7 months I know you just hit the 3 month mark, but it could have something to do with it. Also please don’t expect her to self soothe just yet esp if you think she is in pain. Cooper didn’t sleep well until he was a year even though his meds were fine.. I just think it bothered him in his sleep. And I didn’t get him putting himself to sleep on his own until he was 16 months old. I went by the saying do what works until it doesn’t. and I rocked him to sleep for naps and bedtime and middle of the night for 16 long months.. probably could have done the sleep training a bit earlier, but I waited until rocking didn’t work for us anymore. Just my opinion but she is so young to be doing it on her own. Also she is young but could be teething.. Cooper’s first tooth popped through around 4 months old… which is early, but can happen.
August 6, 2008 at 4:56 pm #55121hellbenntKeymastererin (& I & others) would recommend getting a sling so you can hold her in-arms as she sleeps and not tire your arms out and also so you can do other ‘thing’s beside hold her
erin (& I & others) would recommend a mobywrap or a mei tai or a pouch or a ring sling- you can read all about these here (look for the link at the top for ‘babywearing condnsed’): Babywearing: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1044&PN=1 -
