It seems I have heard you all talking about getting more calories in breast milk by adding something to it? Or a way to get a richer breast milk? Anybody have any ideas about this?
I think it’s called Human Milk Fortifier. The only way to use this is to pump and add it. The fore milk from the breast is about 20cals per oz. Just like regular baby formula.
The hind milk however can be a greater amount up towards 30.
I have known some Mothers whose childrne are FTT and they pump off the fore and breastfeed the hind.
No the best idea for long term use becasue a c hild needs the nutrients in both the fore and hind milk.
oh what is mckenzie’s mom’s screen name? maybe that’s it? LOL!
she posted about this not too long ago…
I think if aspiration isn’t a factor/concern and if baby is ‘old’ enough you can add oil to the milk? and/or add a lot of good fats to your own diet: avocado, avocado oil, flax seed oil, olive oil…
I don’t know about any products that can increase calories in BM…I wish I had before I started supplementing. But I have been told that if you don’t get enough fat in your diet your BM can not be “fatty” enough for your child…I don’t know if it is true of not, but I guess it isn’t going to hurt to try. Good luck!
