Hello All,
I’m still very new at this. We are headed back to the doc in one week and I want to make sure I’m trying all the “little” things I can do so that we can move into the wonderful world of zantac (if needed)… not keep postponing it while I try new things!I am using Soothie Bottles and milk based formula. Has anyone had good results with something else???BethSon Reuben, 8 weeks.Silent Reflux (We think!)Screams after bottles for a few days… then he’s fine for a few days.July 14, 2008 at 2:55 pm #53903AnonymousInactiveWe used the dr brown’s bottle’s and so have many other moms on this site. We started with Avent, but they made his air intake horrible whereas the dr brown’s bottles “vent” the air into the bottle and not into the formula. If you are worried about BPA then I know that borne free bottles are similar to dr brown’s just more expensive as they are BPA free. I think also read somewhere the the dr brown’s were coming out with BPA free one’s as well. But we haven’t used bottles in months so I am not “up to date” on all of that.
We were on Nutramigen b/c of MSPI.
July 14, 2008 at 3:09 pm #53908AnonymousInactiveWe use Soothies, but they do have BPA in them. My ds has used them for so long (7 months), I am just hesitant to change LOL. My ds has been on LOTS of formulas. We have done Enfamil Lipil, Gentlease, Lactofree, Nutramigen and my ds is now on Elecare. Elecare is milk, soy, lactose free. If you are concerned about formula problems, have your sons stool tested for microscopic blood (fecal hemoccult test). That way, you can maybe rule formula problems out. My son has MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance) so the Elecare is needed.
Also, it has been my (and lots of other moms here) experience that the meds can only help, not hurt. They give these type meds (Zantac, Prilosec, Prevacid) to little ones in the NICU, so I myself consider that if it is safe enough to give to a 3lb baby, its safe enought to give to my kid. But, everyone has to make their own choices. Definitely ask your doctor. Maybe google “Zanatc” to read up on it and the side effects and google “PPI infant” to read up on PPIs. Good luck!July 14, 2008 at 3:11 pm #53909hellbenntKeymasterhi & welcome!

as of formula.. i would do something more gentle on their stomachs.. even if they are not mspi.. just because refluxers need to digest as well as possible. so.. if you stick with milk based i would do carnation goodstart.. because it is somewhat broken down and only has whey protien and not casien in it. if you find out they are mspi.. i would go to alimentum/nutramigen.. and then if they cant fo that .. there is neocate.July 14, 2008 at 3:23 pm #53912AnonymousInactiveBeth,
I’ve been obsessed w/ BPA stuff (just ask my husband-lol). Anyway, they are making BPA free Dr. Browns now & I’m almost positive I saw them @ Babies R Us the other day.If not, you can order them.July 14, 2008 at 3:44 pm #53915AnonymousInactiveshanesmom wrote: we use the playtex DROP-INs.. they are bpa free.. and the nipple is most like a breast … that way my son was able to switch over easily.

I forgot about Carnation Goodstart. Great stuff!July 14, 2008 at 4:50 pm #53923AnonymousInactiveAll of my babies have been Neocate babies due to MSPI. I used Advent bottles with my first 2, Dr. Brown’s with this one.
