Hi – my son Matt was diagnosed w/reflux 2 weeks ago. He was born 7 weeks premature and is just over 12 weeks old now. Pretty much since he came home, he has been sleeping in his infant carrier. The bassinet just did not work (even when the head was elevated). Matt weighs just over 11 lbs so I know he has more room to be in his carrier, BUT someday he will have to move to his crib. Specifically, has anyone tried the tucker wedge/sling? I’d like to hear some good/bad feedback on that if you’ve used it. Also, any other suggestions? thanks for any info you can provide!
April 4, 2006 at 12:41 pm #5369AnonymousInactiveLots of people have posted with positive results from the Tucker sling. We tried it with Kaelyn, but she is such an active sleeper that she hated it. She would do really well until she tried to move, then she’d wake up screaming. After a week, we gave up. Looking back, I think that she would have been fine, if we’d just kept trying.

She was on our chests all night long. We just moved her to the wedge last week. We use it in conjuction with the Miracle Blanket because she has such a strong startle reflex. Poor thing looks like Hannibal Lecter all strapped down! She does OK there. She is sleeping in shorter stretches as compared to when we were holding her but I guess that’s to be expected until she gets used to her new surroundings. To be honest, we didn’t try just putting her flat on her back to sleep so I can’t tell you if the wedge is helping her sleep. It could just be a coincidence. But she does sleep. HTH!

I have slept with Matt on my chest (not every night) but notice that that is the best sleep that he gets when he lays with me. Once we get his meds under control (still working w/Zantac & dosage), I’d like to start putting him in his crib and thought the wedge/sling combo would be a big help in keeping him comfortable, but wanted to get some feedback first since it isn’t cheap. I will will check into that miracle blanket b/c Matt still does startle quite a bit. Thanks again!

I don’t know why, but some refluxers feel better laying on their tummies. We have a danny sling brought home from the hospital. You may want to try a hospital pharmacy, but i heard the tucker sling was wonderful and you can place the whole thing in the bed with you. (ours ties to the crib). We had an apnea monitor at that age but as she matured we no longer need it. Alot of moms use the angel care monitor from babies r us. I think you will see a big difference in his sleeping habits and get some sleep yourself! I remember the chest sleeping for the first 2 months!
