Nicholas has an appt. with a ped chiropractor. This guy is supposedly really good. He has some enzyme therapy stuff that he also does in addition to the chiro stuff. Here’s my questions.
What should he be doing for Nicholas? I have read that chiro care can really help gastro stuff. Anyone have any experiences? Also, about the enzyme stuff. Is it worth it to do “enzyme therapy”? Nicholas is MSPI. My dh already thinks this guy is a quack and trying to sucker me into buying a bunch of crap thats worthless. Thoughts? TIA!Also, they asked me when I made the appt. if I thought Nikki had a “traumatic birth”? For me it was traumatic, but how the heck am I supposed to know if it was traumatic for him? Aren’t all births traumatic for babies? Again, do babies really need to be helped b/c they had a “traumatic birth” or is this bs?kdub 2008-07-07 18:24:20 July 7, 2008 at 8:20 pm #53514hellbenntKeymasterI don’t know what to say…we went to a QUACK at the height of our desperation. A bonafide QUACK. *sigh*
After that, I DID bring Jonah to a chiropractor. I did not see any miracles. I have no idea if it helped any. BUT, it did not HURT. There are a fair share of members on this forum who have had positive chiropractor experiences! As far as enzymes go, you might want to research here and, if you do go that route, maybe you can do it on your own so that you don’t feel as if you’re doing it because the chiropractor is ‘selling’ it to you. I think there are links to enzyme info from here- if not, let me know! Probiotics, brands used: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8970&PN=1July 8, 2008 at 12:06 am #53527AnonymousInactiveI think traumatic birth usually means umbillical cord around the neck, or when the baby requires oxygen, etc…
Justice’s Mom, Shelby, has had good experiences with a chiropractor. You could ways PM her. Oh gosh…I’m pretty sure her name is Shelby…now I’m having 2nd thoughts!I would be weary of the enzymes with MSPI. I don’t know much about enzymes or enzyme therapy but I’d hate for it to be something that he can’t tolerate.I’m anxious to hear how it goes! Good luck!amy00132008-07-08 00:07:06
July 8, 2008 at 4:12 pm #53565AnonymousInactiveHi there! I’m so glad you posted this question. I totally wanted to know also.
We have an appt for my dd tomorrow with a chiro. I’m afraid to be too hopeful. I have a friend of a friend who went to this person for their reflux baby. THAT baby is doing very well now. Was it the chiro? was it the Zantac? who knows? All I know is that I am VERY willing to give this a whirl…must be my desperation, I guess.
Anyway, the chiro we are going to Jennifer Angell http://adjust4kids.com/ is my sister-in-laws friend so I’m hoping that means she won’t just tell me what I want to hear. She does chiro and some kind of “cranial massage”….I’ve only read minimal on this ….but I do find positive info.
I’ll keep you posted.

We just got back from Nicholas’ 1st chiropractor appt. Very nice man. He took a full medical history. He was VERY interested in the MSPI stuff. Wanted to know what formula he is on. VERY happy about the Elecare; he called the grocery store stuff “junk” (not sure why or what he meant by that).Anyway, he got in depth about the spine and how nerves come off of the spine. In theory, if the spine is not in proper adjustment, the nerves can be pinched causing many health issues. He wanted to know how much $$ we had spent on all the meds. It sounded like he was going to tell me about how medication isn’t needed or something to that effect, but I stopped him before he could. I basically told him that Nicholas needed the Prevacid END OF STORY.He adjusted Nicholas (back and neck). We also talked about enzyme therapy, which I am pretty interested in. I definitely have to ask the GI dr first, but it sounds interesting. Not sure if I’m sold on this chiropractic stuff yet, but it can’t hurt.kdub2008-07-08 19:10:53
July 8, 2008 at 7:41 pm #53578AnonymousInactiveWell that sounds like a good start. The chiro we are seeing tomorrow spoke similarly about the pinched nerves when I interviewed her over the phone.
How often did they want you to go for adjustment? Our gal said that she typically has babies come every other day if possible. Supposedly she’s gonna do some sort of scan to see the misalignment and then after 6 sessions they scan again.I’ll let you all know more tomorrow!July 8, 2008 at 8:22 pm #53581AnonymousInactiveHe didn’t do a scan, he just felt for misalignment. We are seeing him 2 more times this week. Our chiro said that typically babies respond better and faster to chiro care than adults and they typically need less sessions than adults. Of course, he gave no guarantees to any of this but that’s what he said was typical.
After the end of the week, he said he would evaluate Nicholas to see if/how many more sessions were needed.July 8, 2008 at 8:54 pm #53585AnonymousInactiveOkay Kristin I am being nosy but why was his birth traumatic for you? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. But I do think that birth is “traumatic for babies” but luckily I don’t think the “remember” it and I think their bodies are so maliable (sp) at that point that I don’t know that unless they dislocate a shoulder, have fluid in their lungs or have the umbilical cord wrapped around their neck that it would be consider anymore traumatic than usual. Shoot I know Cooper’s birth would have been super traumatic for both of us had he not been a c-section since he was almost 10lbs… I”m a big girl but there is now way I could have done that. oKay sorry off topic i am just curious. I hope this works. I thought about being a chrio when I was in college but b/c so many are quacks I decided against it and that is how I became a dietitian…
July 8, 2008 at 11:06 pm #53589AnonymousInactiveI hear ya about the quacks. His birth wasn’t necessarily traumatic for me, it just wasn’t on my list of pleasant things I’ve done in my lifetime LOL. It was just really long and I pushed for 2 hours. He got stuck and they had to call the resident (I use a midwife) in case he didn’t get unstuck quickly. He definitely had fluid in his lungs. They took him to the NICU and sucked him out (which I made them do once again before we left). He did have a nuchal cord (around neck) but just one time. I can honestly say that I knew something was wrong with him the 1st night in the hospital. I tried to point it out to numerous people, but the pretty much brushed me off.
I don’t think babies remember birth either THANK GOD! I think the reason they asked is maybe his spine got out of whack from birth? I guess since babies don’t get their spines out of adjustment the way adults do from carrying heavy stuff, lifting wrong, etc.Since you are a dietician. What are your thoughts on giving him enzymes? The chiro was talking about their benefits and he thought enzyme therapy would be helpful for his MSPI. I an wary of giving him things in fear of making it worse.July 10, 2008 at 1:02 am #53655AnonymousInactiveOkay, so we had our visit to the chiro today……..very interesting! She took a full history. Was really trying to tie the reflux to our first round of vaccines. Our dd was showing signs well before that time…we just didn’t know they were signs til later. Chiro was also VERY interested in the formula we are on (alimentum). She recommended a homemade Raw Cow’s Milk formula….uhhhh….I’m not sure just yet what I think of THAT! I told her that we were on Alimentum as we suspected a dairy allergy and then she suggested either doing a homemade Goats Milk or Liver (?) formula. I’ve been reviewing the website she gave me PLUS the controversial info about this topic of homemade formula….I’m not sure I’m willing to chance it. Her reasoning was that the Alimentum isn’t “pure” and since I’m not breastfeeding, this homemade option was the closest. That homemade formula would somehow clean out Amanda’s system or something like that.
Anyway, I’m not sure I’m buying that part. From there she adjusted baby and did cranial massage….baby seemed to enjoy the whole thing and was totally mellow for her. I didn’t really notice anything, except we’ve had NO spit up today and baby went down really well for bedtime…..but it’s still early (10pm my time). The proof will come by morning.Anyway, we are going to continue to see her for adjustments. Baby’s scan showed quite alot of misalignment in her neck. Hopefully that help her.As for the formula issue….honestly, I think I’m too scared to introduce Raw Cow’s Milk. As I understand it, straight Cow’s milk (and goat’s milk) is really hard to digest and you aren’t even supposed to be introducing it til 12 months or so….what the heck will it do to my gerdling???!!!!!Anyway, signing off….a scaredy-cat.amandasmommy12008-07-10 01:05:09

Amanda slept horrible last night. Up with the belly aches at 1130pm and 4am….November 14, 2008 at 9:20 pm #58721AnonymousInactiveI find it interesting that you said your baby sucked in fluid, because my dd did too. I recently came across an article while trying to research osteopathy that basically claimed an infant not getting a proper first breath does not allow for the rib cage to expand like it should after being compressed in the birth canal and that this can cause acid reflux issues. I have been wondering if anyone has been to a doctor who specializes in osteopathic care and if it helped. It seems similar to chiropractics, but I guess the two have different philosophies. I am wondering how many other infants with acid reflux swallowed fluid or did not have a proper first breath and if that is really a correlation becky2008-11-14 21:22:13
November 14, 2008 at 11:30 pm #58722AnonymousInactiveI haven’t been keeping up with this thread as closely as I should…Becky’s response just caught my attention.
Sarah struggled for her first breath! I remember them really working with her (for what seemed like an eternity) and she never really let out a huge healthy holler…she more whimpered. (Until about 12 hours later when she showed me how strong her lungs really were and didn’t stop screaming until we got her on a PPI! LOL!) Don’t get me wrong…it wasn’t a panicked state…I just remember the doctor rubbing her back and suctioning for several seconds before she cried. Hmmmmmmmm -
