I am just curious if reflux tends to flare up when a baby is constipated?

Yes, I definitely saw Nathan’s reflux flare up whenever he was constipated. He didn’t have any chronic constipation, just from time to time, and every time a reflux flare came along with it. Not sure of the exact cause, though.

yes! we had to keep Landen on Miralax b/c his prevacid constipated him, and if we missed a dose of the laxative, we knew it. He would reflux a lot worse.

YES! If the baby doesn’t poop, then everything gets backed up… the stomach doesn’t empty as much when the intestinal motility is reduced.

Yes it is true and it STINKS because for us it was a cycle…the PPI meds were CAUSING the constipation…which would in turn aggrivate the reflux. Go figure!!! We actually didn’t realize it was her med causing the constipation until we weaned her off of it. I was amazed at her first few poopy diapers after we took her off the medicine…night and day difference! We tried prunes, juice, and benefiber for her constipation and nothing worked. Miralax was our next choice but we weaned her all together before we needed to go that route.

Good luck and I hope you can find a ‘happy medium’ between the reflux and constipation!
