Hello all….Many of you may have read about the struggles my baby has gone through since birth. Something very crazy happened this week and I really wanted to share it with you all in case any of you are in similar situation.
My baby has had diarrhea since birth and the mucous followed close after. He has reflux, MSPI, C-Diff and Laryngomalasia. He was miserable, he wasn’t growing, he wouldn’t eat, and this had gone on for almost 4 months. He was treated for the C-diff with Flagyl, which worked. However, as soon as he stopped the medicine, the symptoms returned. The doc assumed the C-Diff was gone because he continually tested negative for it. The doc continued to put him on antibiotics to treat a different infection that they believed was caused by something else more serious (they were worried about the infection going into the blood stream and killing him.) They tested him for everything! Anyhow….after 4 rounds of Flagyl and 1 round of Vanc, they did an endoscopy. They were absolutely SHOCKED to find no colitis! But, they were concerned because then what? During the endoscopy they took another set of stool samples (usually did this weekly.) This time the test came back positive for the C-Diff toxins again. Basically, he has had the C-Diff infection the entire time although he was testing negative. At this point, there was tons of diarrhea and mucous! The doctors talked about starting another round of Vanc…but I had had enough!
I had done a lot of research on C-Diff, and the correlation with reflux meds as well as probiotics. Research shows there is a link to the use of PPIs and H2Blockers to the C-DIff toxins (the actual damage done from the infection.) Research also showed that along with anti-biotics, probiotics could be quite effective in stopping C-Diff reoccurrences. So, against doctor’s orders, I decided to take him off the reflux medicine completely and start a probiotic. Within two days his stools were completely normal, he was eating like CRAZY, his reflux was way better than it was on the Prevacid and he was happy. Go figure. I attribute this change to 3 things: first, many prayers as I believe faith is stronger than any Vanc, second, the probiotic supplying his desperately needing intestines with some healthy bacteria and third, taking him off the reflux meds.
That was about a week ago. Now, he’s constipated
