First of all- thanks so much for the advice about trying Similac’s hypoallergenic formula- so much better than enfamil. Jackson is downing it! I am not convinced that his reflux is due to allergies, but being that he is 10 months old and still spitting heavily, I feel like I owe it to him to give it a run (despite the doctor’s belief that it is not allergy related). He really has no other allergy symptoms besides reflux. Yesterday, however, I read something about hyperactivity and food allergies and Jackson is certainly a live wire. Who knows!

On to my question- how long till I see improvement if it is due to a dairy/soy allergy. Once we are completely dairy and soy free, will I see improvement quickly if it is due to an allergy?

I think it can take 2-4 weeks before offending proteins leave his body. I hope it’s sooner than that if it is the problem…but I don’t think it will happen overnight. GOOD LUCK!

I would say a minimum of 2wks but probably more like 4wks b/c he has so much in his system from being on it for so long. I hope it goes well.

Thanks for the information. He is cranky today (2nd day on Alimentum). Could it be that the adjustment is bothering his tummy?) Also, that stuff stinks when they spit it up! When I was making the bottles, I did not think that it smelled as offensive as regular, milk based formula (which I think smells like poopy). But, Alimentum smells worse when they spit it up. It will be worth the stinkiness if it works!

I agree with the others it could take weeks for it to work since he’s been on milk based formula for so long. Hang in there. And yes, hypo’s and elemental formulas stink so bad! Worth it for a happy baby though! I hope it works!
