Help! Evan has been on prevacid for 5 days, he seems to be spitting up more often than before…is this normal? Also, he hasn’t pooped in about 20 hours, he’s never gone that long, is this normal? He is farting up a storm all day though.

Sometimes they tend to spit up more once they are on the right meds b/c it doesn’t hurt anymore so they don’t try to “fight” it. I can’t say about the pooping as Cooper always pooped multiple times/day until he was on solids.

My ds is on Prevacid and I do notice he actually spits up more now than before. Probably for the reason Beth stated. My ds has only pooped once a day since the meconium days. I would think that as long as the poops are not really hard, really loose, blood tinged or white in color that you should be okay.

like Beth said, it no longer hurts him to let the spit up out, so he will probably spit up more.

As for the lack of pooping, ppi’s can cause constipation. We had to put Landen on Miralax when he was on prevacid to keep things moving in the right direction.

Thanks, I talked to the ped. today and she said the spitting up is not an issue since he’s gaining weight so well. He pooped, and I was a little concerned because there were black specks (which is new), but she said not to worry and if it continues to bring it to the specialists when I go next week. Of course, being neurotic i will continue to worry! It is nice that he no longer screams every time he spits up, he’s still an unhappy burper but it’s only been a week.

what formula is baby on? or breastmilk? not to alarm you (!) but keep an eye on the stools- if what you’re seeing looks like what can be described as coffee grounds, then MAYBE it’s ‘old’ blood. again don’t be scared! just keep an eye on it. (also when you get a chance, can you go to the top of this srcreen, the upper right hand corner, and click on ‘settings’ and from there edit profile or edit signature and put in your signature your baby’s age, doses of meds, formula or breastfed, etc? thanks! I can’t keep track & hate to have to keep asking the same questions)

That was my fear, but it’s been only a speck or two, and it seems to have stopped now.
