Hi ladies. Does the prevacid solutab come in a delayed release formula? I’ve seen some posts that reference the tab as purple. Our 15mg solutabs are orange, and the ped said to give it just once a day (i didn’t ask her about dividing up the dose). I’m wondering if what i have is a delayed release version of the solutab and maybe i’m dividing it for no reason?
Thanks,

Dh says the beads are delayed release but only so they can get pass the stomach acid and not be degraded. And as Laura said babies metabolize the meds so quickly which is why you give doses more often than in adults.

Are you sure that you were given prevacid and nother another PPI? The solutabs are delayed release, with the explanation that Beth gave. Doesn’t have anything to do with whether or not you should divide up the doses- that’s to account for an infant/child’s higher rate of med metabolism.

I just gave her a dose of prevacid this morning which went really well. We did it by dissolving it on a spoon. We didn’t lose any granules from dribbling water. But then when she ate 30 minutes later she spit up everywhere and vomited through her nose. I couldn’t tell if there was any medicine in her spitup, but I didn’t see anything purple, so maybe the medicine got through her system before she threw up. This is so frustrating…I don’t know why DD’s reflux is to the point of causing me to need an antidepressent. She’s not as bad as a lot of babies because she’s gaining weight and is otherwise healthy, but this is just really hard. Sorry to get off topic, but I am so exhausted with this. Seems like it’s never going to get better if I can’t even get the medicine down for her without something going wrong. I’m trying to remain positive.
Thanks ladies for answering my question.

One thing I found with my ds is that dissolving the Prevacid with water made taking it worse. It’s just easier for him and I to dissolve it in his mouth. I wash my hands and dry them first and then hold the pill either under his tounge or in his cheek to dissolve. His saliva does the dissolving. I try and move the site around his mouth each time so one area doesn’t get irritated too much. After the pill dissolves, I wash it down with like 1ml of water.Good luck and take care!June 17, 2008 at 2:00 pm #52704AnonymousInactiveI know how you feel. We went through several years of turmoil from reflux. It’s really hard, and you don’t have to feel bad about how you feel. There are always going to be people who are dealing with things that are worse than your own situation. It doesn’t make your own reality any easier in the moment, but remembering that might help to keep things in perspective for you. No matter how hard it feels, remind yourself that if she’s gaining weight and developing well and her pain seems controlled then you’re at least a couple of steps ahead. It’s not the answer though, I realize. I couldn’t get my dd to take meds. It was terrible. In the end, we had to get caracream and mix it into her formula… very tedious. Many have found that the baby eventually gets used to the taste. Even though my dd hated her prevacid, when we eventually weaned, she used to come asking me for it because it was just part of her routine.
Anyhow, hang in there. How much prevacid is she on? Maybe you can up the dose and give it in two doses, that way if she spits up one, at least you know that there will be a second one.About Arizona, we’re travelling there over the summer. Any suggestions for things to do or how to prepare for the heat? -
