My son is 3.5 wks old… dx w/ GER Monday after we were in the ER Sunday night b/c he wasn’t breathing (choking on mucus). Anyway, he’s been on Zantac since Monday & today has been by FAR our worst day yet. He’s bf’ing & the only thing that settles him down is nursing. He has slept less than 2hrs all day. Call ped & he said “no” to Mylanta. We see the Ped GI on Wednesday. My question is: anybody out there give Mylanta to your baby this young? If so, how much, how often & when (before feedings?). We are desperate here!
You can do Cherry Supreme Mylanta even this young. It does not contain aluminum. Just do 1ml doses. You will know you have given too much if your sons bm’s get really loose. Then just back off for a little while. We don’t do the Mylanta anymore, but it was our savior when my son was a newborn.
my :big mylanta cherry supreme fan here! I used it w/ my GERDling, jonah (the reason I found and remain at this site!) and then w/ my non-refluxer, Ari- he got it from the time he came home from the hospital, just days old…I swear by the stuff, LOL! I realize your ped said no, so maybe call the ped gastro & just ask the nurse-tell her you heard from someone that it’s safe for newborns, just a ml, and see what she says…she might tell you use maalox and if you hear that, go compare the ingredients in the two & decide for yourself- you have to do what you feel comfortable with & not ‘just’ take things from strangers on the internet (but we happen to be right, LOLOLOL!!!
Love Cherry Mylanta supreme. We used it very often when my lo was young and still do occasionally if I can’t figure out what is wrong. Like Kristen said go 1ml at a time, maybe 15 min before a feed and if he starts having loose poops then you may need to back off… it is a just a side effect. But I would take a loose poop over a screaming baby any day.
