I was reading the ingredients on my son’s Elecare tonight and noticed something I thought was odd. Soy oil is one of the listed ingredients. My son does great on the Elecare; I just thought this was strange. What the heck is soy oil and how does is NOT effect an MSPI’er?
Soy oil, or soy lecithin are fats/emulsifiers and not proteins so they don’t effect them with the MSPI… You just have to look out for soy protein and milk proteins… I know it is so confusing.
Most kids with soy protein issues can handle soy oil and soy lecithin because, as Beth said, they aren’t the protein. However, there are some kids that are so sensitive to soy that the oil and lecithin bother them, and some are even so sensitive as to have trouble with soy derivatives, like vitamin E derived from soy.
