Kaden has been on alimentum now since Tuesday evening, so almost 4 whole days and he seems to be tolerating it so much better than the milk based formula’s he had previously tried. He still gets fussy, but that is what it is, normal baby fussy. He will still scream out with gas pains, but not near as much as before. He does not seem as gassy either. He doesn’t burp as much, and he used to get hiccups at least 3X a day, now it is more like one or two times. He still spits up a fair amount though, but I know that is normal. He is also eating better, more at a feeding. I guess even this young, they know what does and doesn’t hurt, going down.
His stools are different now, and he didn’t have one at all yesterday, but I know that isn’t uncommon with a formula change.
I do have a question….obviously with the added expense of this formula ( which may be covered if our ped applies on our behalf to a provincial program, once we know if this is the right formula for Kaden) we are on a tight budget.
We were originally using Gerber Clearview bottles, which he loved the nipple shape of. Prior to the diagnosis of reflux, we swithed to the playtex nurser system with the collapsable bags, to try to eliminate the amount of air intake. He tolerates the nipple on the nursers, but plays and figits during the feed.
Do you think that going back to the gerbers would cause more air to be taken in? I know that the nipple package said they reduced air intake/colic, but how do I know? THis would also save us having to buy the liners for the playtex. If in fact the playtex eliminate most of the air whereas the gerbers don’t we will definatly stick with the playtex. I mean, we have both. I am just looking at what he likes better, and saving some $$. I also find that trying to squish the bag to remove the air after he has drank a few 0z is hard as my fingers seem too short to reach all the way up. Any suggestions?
Anyhow, just thought that I would let you all know that he is a much happier baby these days! Hopefully it lasts!!
