I second Beth’s response. The upper GI is only intended to look for structural abnormalities. Sometimes, a child will reflux the barium, and that will show on the upper GI. But if that doesn’t happen, it doesn’t mean that there’s no reflux. Our upper GI was normal, and the hospital mistakenly commented that “there was no reflux”. She indeed had quite bad reflux. If your doctor is using the upper GI to diagnose reflux, then they should consider additional testing. Good luck.
