Well, we had to stop the Oat milk. I honestly don’t think Landen is reacting to ‘oat’ but probably another ingredient IN the oat milk. About 1.5 weeks ago, he was getting more and more restless with sleep and had a fair amount of gas. Then last Fri night we went to friends house for dinner and when we got there, Landen would fall to their floor and cry and then have really bad gas. His somach pain was REALLY bad and he’d turn beet red and cry. We stopped the Oat milk and within 2 days he was back to ‘normal’ (as normal as Landen can be- lol)
So we’ve tried:Soy formula at 9 mos with gas, constipation, increased reflux, extreme irritabilityRice Milk at 13 months with all of the above symptoms only 100x worseOat Milk with all of the above symptoms but the gas symptom was the worst. So once his system cleared I decided to try a TINY bit of dairy with him and what a stupid move. Rash around his waistline, around his mouth and angry red ring around his anus and all of the symptoms we had with soymilk.I really want to throw in the towel and say that he’ll be on Neocate for the rest of his life!My next thing to try will be vance’s darifree. I ordered it today but am so scared to put him through another trial!!!Also, do you think I should have another endoscopy on him? I am def getting skin prick allergy testing done, I am waiting on the allergist to call. He had RAST and came up allergic to nothing, but I cannot believe that to be correct! His endoscopy was done when he was on Neocate only, that is why I ask if it should be redone. Thanks for listening!May 4, 2008 at 8:46 pm #51097AnonymousInactiveJill, I feel so bad for you and Landen and your whole family. You are doing through so much right now. I don’t know how you are staying sane. I would talk to Sheri about the darifree b/c I think she uses that with Ben so maybe she can help you out. She is a pro in my book when it comes to these food issues as she has been dealing with it herself. I have been reading that many children out grown their allergies by the ages of 3-5.
May 4, 2008 at 9:39 pm #51105AnonymousInactivemaybe there is something else in the rice and oat milk that he is reacting to.. as you mentioned?? maybe try another brand?? i know many of them have carageenan in them which can cause reactions.. did you try rice dream?
May 5, 2008 at 9:57 am #51118AnonymousInactiveWhen we did rice milk, we did rice dream. I think rice is the actual intolerance though with that one. The oat milk (I swear, he’s NEVER reacted to oatmeal) had carageenen in it. I am not sure what that is, but maybe it was the problem? It also had carob bean in it. Now I am a little worried about the Vance’s Darifree I just ordered. I beleive it has carageenen in it too.
