Well I think our visit went pretty good! The dr. we saw at Walter Reed seemed very knowledgable and when she was unsure about certain things she aked the attending doc to come in. We decided that since Jack is gaining we are going to do things one step at a time and this is what they came up with.
First, they want a modified barium swallow done to rule out swallowing difficulties. Our appointment is on 12 April so any input on this and what I can expect would be great.
If the swallow test turns out to be normal that we will move onto allergy testing- they took a stool sample yesterday to check for a milk/soy allergy I think. They mentioned putting Jack on Neocate but I think we are waiting to see what his stool says.
And the last resort is to scope him and take a biopsy- but this will only be done if the other 2 tests come up normal. Both dr’s agreed that his meds were at the right dose and I’m thinking he may have a swallowing problem just becuse he is on a size 2 AVENT nipple and he chokes when he goes to a size 3 and he also gags when he uses a cup. Maybe I’m just grabbing at straws so I’ll wait and see what the speech pathologist says. Oddly enough Jack has been in a great mood for 4 days now he still isn’t eating a ton( 20ozs in 24 hours) but he’s happy.
