It could be a coincidence or it could be that her prilosec just started kicking in. We been working our way up from 8mg/day to 16mg/day and dr. said we could give her up to 32mg/day of prilosec, but we might be able to stop at 16mg. We’ve really just got the hang of giving it to her 30 minutes before feeding and getting her to keep it down, etc so she’s really only had about 3 days of good dosing.
But 3 days ago the dr. put her on BioGaia drops and less than 1 day later she has been great, very happy and only a little fussy since Friday (she had a bad couple hours friday because of her vaccines) but has been perfect all weekend, other than a little gas now and then. She has also mysteriously stop spitting up, except for maybe once every other feeding, she used to vomit 5 or 6 times after every feeding. So it could be that she is growing out of the reflux (not likely she grew out of it so suddently), the prilosec dose is just about right and working, the BioGaia is helping a LOT, we’re really not sure so we’re going to keep doing everything the same for a few days.It also happens that the BioGaia contains the same bacteria from the Wondertime article. I’ve searched for a formula that has this same bacteria but can’t find a childrens version (the biogaia is very expensive).Anyway, just wanted to post in case anyone else wanted to try the biogaia or had similar experience with it, we’d really like to know if it could work that fast.Something else worth mentioning is that the rash on her face/chest and even her bottom rash went away about 4 days ago soon after we started the prilosec. Not sure if that is coincidence either.area123 2008-04-21 14:30:22 April 20, 2008 at 3:08 pm #50634AnonymousInactiveIt might be a combo of the BioGaia and the prilosec working together! I know probiotics do AMAZING things for babies, particularly ones with GI problems.
I am so glad she is feeling better, but most of all I just wanted to say that your daughter is ADORABLE!! love the new pic!April 20, 2008 at 3:18 pm #50636AnonymousInactivethank you. I’m trying to put some pics on my sig. I wish it would show up w/o the scroll bars on there. Mabye there is a way to do that?
What other probiotics have people had sucess with? I’ll keep using the biogaia if it works better no matter what it cost, but if something works just as good I’ve found lots of them for about 1/5 the cost.April 20, 2008 at 3:24 pm #50637AnonymousInactivethe scroll bar is there. great pics! i wish i knew how to do that!!
April 20, 2008 at 8:21 pm #50641hellbenntKeymasternot sure if (any of) these have the same ingredient as listed in the Colic Solved article or in the BioGaia (and, please feel free to add your info to the thread!)

April 20, 2008 at 8:23 pm #50642AnonymousInactiveWe use florababy by renew life. I don’t know how much yours cost but this is about $25 for a 2 month supply. The probiotics worked wonders for us. BTW this one is soy/dairy free don’t know if you need that or not.
April 20, 2008 at 8:23 pm #50643AnonymousInactiveWow! That’s such GREAT news!!! Do you remember which bacteria it is? I’ll check the probiotic we use.
And, man, those are some great pics! She is adorable!!!Bensmama2008-04-20 20:24:44
April 20, 2008 at 8:26 pm #50644hellbenntKeymasterLactobacillus reuteri.
is the one on page 2 of the articleApril 20, 2008 at 10:27 pm #50650AnonymousInactiveyup, thats it. They add protectus to the end of the name so they can patent it & charge $50 for 25 doses. I have also seen the florababy locally, i’ll see what is in that.
She is doing great still, but still having about 1-2 hours of fussiness in the evenings. It seems more like gas than acid now & she is pretty easy to console just by walking around or rocking, etc. before, nothing would console her. Not perfect yet but getting better.
Most of it is thanks to this website!!!
April 21, 2008 at 2:27 pm #50656AnonymousInactiveWell, I wanted to report on about last night and get any insights. We had a pretty bad night after a great 3 days. baby Amelia was very fussy & screamed for at least 30 minutes and then would not sleep, between about 10:30-4am she slept about 1.5 hours & not very soundly. A warm bath around 4am calmed her enough to fall asleep after about 45 more minutes. The ONLY thing I can think of is that mom had a little ice cream becasue the dr. said she didn’t think it was milk allergy and she needed to try a little dairy to rule it out. AND we had vaccines on Friday and the dr. said about 1 in 3 babies get extremely fussy for several days afterwards. Everything else we did by the book, she had her 16mg of prilosec, about 3-4ml of mylanta, pepcid complete before bed so I don’t see how she could have had any acid left, it had to be intestinal pain or gas I think.
The diaper rash came back a little. Could that be caused by milk allergy?
We need to know so we can decide if mommy needs to completely cut out dairy, even traces and hidden stuff like whey, etc, etc. She had never really cut out all traces from things like whey & other hidden ingredients, although she doesn’t have any dairy products at all anymore, except for the snickers & cheese on friday and little ice cream on Sunday. Is there a test the dr. can do? Or can I send some of her poo off through mail (I know it sounds nasty) to get it tested? I’d really rather not make another trip to the dr. this month but will if we have to.thanks so much.edit:Oh, I’m also thinkin of increasing her prilosec to 20mg/day. Man it is soooo hard to even give her the 8mg dose 2x/day, 10mg will be terrible. Her recommended dose of that drug per marci is about 23mg. Dr. did not really want to give us zegerid cause they say prilosec works better, but it is the same drug right?? Does anyone think the prilosec compound could be innefective? I know I’ve read about the compounding but the pharmacist is only giving us 1 week at a time so it should be ok & he is not adding any sweeteners.area1232008-04-21 14:36:55
April 21, 2008 at 7:15 pm #50672hellbenntKeymasterwell, sounds like the pharmacist is on the right track!
I’d check out the link for how to get it compounded & find out if it’s the ‘right’ percentage per ml, etc- I don’t know this stuff off the top of my head, lol! so here’s the link: compounding from lori: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7855&TPN=1as far as diet goes, there’s a test for occult blood- this is blood hidden to the eye- you’d have to take a stool sample in- BUT just because there is no blood does NOT mean there might not be an intolerance. Sheri’s allergy/intolerance explanation; https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10223&PID=87638#87638the one way to ‘test’ for sure if it’s milk or soy proteins is to cut them out all together for 2 or even 3 weeks- to clear it out of your wife’s system & also from the baby’s system- if you see no difference whatsoever then you can just add it back in- unfortunately this seems like the only ‘test’ for intolerances… -
