I am the mother of 3 month old Hayden Rose. She is breastfed 90% of the time and fed Gentlese the other 10%, when I don’t have any pumped.
My 2 year old had simular problems when he was an infant. He was controlled with Nexium (i think), Dr. Browns bottles and Gentlese. (not breastfed)H.R. doesn’t spit up and doesn’t mind being on her back, usually. She could be sound asleep in the swing or being held and all of a sudden just start wailing in pain, and getting stiff. These outburst can last anywhere from 5-20 minutes at a time. After trying Axid (1 ml 3xday) for 3 weeks and rice in the bottle and Kayro Syrup for the constipation, I thought we had found a solution. I finally had to go back because the painful cries were back. I haven’t found a pattern yet. We are now on 15 mg previcid solutabs once a day. I am gald to read not to feed for 30-60 because with her first dose I didn’t do that.Sometimes I can quite her by feeding her, which sometimes seems like I feed her every hour or two because she will fall asleep while eating. I did read where some moms say it soothes their throat.THe one thing that has become my lifesaver is this sling I got from lucky-baby.com I guess she just likes that close womb like feel, but it usually calms her pretty well and holds her close. (and gives you 2 free hands to do things like type on this message board) if anyone has any other advice to a newbie please let me know. The board is so useful but also very overwelming. One post has 20 links which have more links. Thanks for listening to me babble.AngelaApril 17, 2008 at 6:02 pm #50512hellbenntKeymasterhi & welcome!

ps:I just don’t believe these babies need solids introduced any early than they have to…of course, thickening has helped a lot of babies, don’t get me wrong!!!!! also, w/ breastmilk, it can hurt your supply…this is an excellent resource: http://www.kellymom.com/
here’s about thickening feeds: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/reflux.html

But I would say maybe to try splitting her dose into 7.5 mg in the a.m .and then 7.5mg in the p.m. (does not have to be 12hrs apart) to see if this helps better and if you don’t want to do that I personally would give it at night to help with sleep. If you do split the dose put the unused 1/2 tab in aluminum foil until you use it as it is light sensitive and can break down and not be effective. Another thing you can do until the prevacid kicks in is Cherry Mylanta Supreme (but beware of potential for loose stools) Many moms use 1ml 10-15 min before a feeding to help coat the throat and tummy before feeding. I hope this helps. You have found a great place.

Also, http://www.marci-kids.com is a great resource. They suggest dosing PPI’s in high amounts for three doses a day because little ones metabolize things so quickly and the meds won’t last as long for them. They also have a great dosing calculator to check to see if her dose is enough. My suggestion would be to split her current dose.. give her 1/2 in the am, axid in the afternoon, and 1/2 the prevacid in the pm. hopefully, she will get more coverage that way. My guess though, is that her prevacid dose is still not quite high enough.Hang in there. I know it’s tough… Also, one last thought.. do you think she could be reacting to certain foods you are eating? Milk and soy tend to be the biggest culprits and they are in everything, but it has helped babies out a lot when they are cut from the diet. Just a thought.. what are her poos like? -
