OK, we’re on Day 8 of the Neocate (transitioned from Nutramigen), and I have seen no difference thusfar. Elizabeth is still having 6-7 green, foamy, mucousy diarrhea BMs a day. Her poor little bottom is raw!
We’re in the process of collecting the stool samples for the GI (3 different parasite tests). I called to find out if we can also test for C. Diff, Giardia, and bacteria. Haven’t heard back yet, but it’s out of pocket so I can’t see it being an issue. It will take a week or two to get the results back.Someone please tell me that their child still turned around on Neocate after this amount of time with no change! I would feel better about things if it all was starting to get gradually better, but it’s not! This just gives me more time to obsess about all the other things that could be wrong with her…Someone slap me and tell me to get ahold of myself! (Like the scene in Moonstruck when Cher slaps Nicolas Cage.)What else should I ask about? On a positive note, we’re certainly not dealing with FTT issues–she’s over 16lbs at 4 months! I don’t know how, considering it runs thorugh her so fast!I really need some reassurance from some other BTDT moms!April 6, 2008 at 6:15 pm #49991AnonymousInactiveI don’t know what to tell you to ask for more than what you are, I will say that it took my son a long time on Neocate to see a difference in him, I would say 4 weeks at least. I can understand at day 8 you want her better and I did too, I remember calling the pedi GI and saying this isn’t working and I remember the call back from her nurse saying “we hear this all the time after babies are started on Neocate and you have to give his little body time to heal” and I thought “easy for you to say” as I struggle here!!
He had soooooo many stools and it was so long ago I can’t say how many or consistency or give you any other explanation. But it sounds like you are trying your best to find answers! I will tell you that you are lucky she is gaining weight b/c we had to go through NG tube b/c Owen was 10lbs at 4 mo and did not gain weight forever. Whatever he ate he either pooped, peed or puked out! Hugs to you!April 6, 2008 at 6:16 pm #49992AnonymousInactiveOh, by the way, he’s over 23 lbs now and just turned 18 mo and he picks fights with his 4 yr old brother all the time!! He’s still tiny for his age, but he’s very fiesty! You will get there some day!!

Like Erica, it also took us at least a few weeks to see a change in stools and in refluxing as the Neocate healed Landen’s GI problems. He had mucousy, bloody poop for at least a few weeks even after starting Neocate (landen had visible blood! it was so hard to look at and scary too) Hang in there. If she is still doing poorly in a few weeks I’d consider checking into something in formulas that could be bother her GI (I’ve heard Corn or DHA/ARA causing issues for some babies, but DEF give Neocate a try before looking into that, I think it is rare…)
And like Erica here is a success story: Landen is 14 mos and growing like a weed! He also likes to tackle his big bro too. He’s 24 lbs right now. 🙂 We are on Neocate 1+ b/c he still can’t do milk/soy/rice, but we are going to trial an Oat Milk soon! Landen is also reflux free now. It’s gonna get better!jilly782008-04-06 20:17:35
