Wile at the GI’s office a sales rep from Enfamil was there and I over heard them talking about a new formula and he said it was their form of elacare and Neonate formulas, you can order it through their web site and he said it is already in some stores behind the counter, and will be WIC approved soon. I went to the site and This is what is said. I thought it might help some of you guys out.

that is good to know. THis means that maybe it won’t be so hard to get the elemental formulas anymore. I sure hope that they will have it in regular stores and that the price isn’t too high. I will have to have dh ask his friend who is a rep for Mead Johnson about the product.

I just did a little search on the mead johnson website and this stuff is expensive. I don’t know how much the neocate or elecare cost but it is about 2x what nutramigen costs. It says a case which is 4 14.1 oz cans of powder is $155. That is almost $40 a can… The regular nutramigen is $27 a can for a 16 oz can of powder. I wish they would make this stuff more resonabley priced.

That is $15 more per case than Neocate (a case of neocate is four 14 oz cans). The Neocate I by from their website is $135.00 per case! I agree with you, this stuff is terribly expensive. I was eager to stop paying for it, but now we are buying Neocate 1+.jilly782008-04-03 21:14:24

The Elecare we get from Optioncare is $180 a case (case of 6). Makes it $30 a can. Thank goodness insurance pays most of it. My ped told me once that the reason formula is so expensive is because

a. It’s like gas. The companies can make it whatever price they want, b/c if you aren’t breastfeeding, this is your only other option. You kind of HAVE to feed your infant.

b. WIC. The companies give so much (which I’m sure they get a HUGE tax break or something for) formula that they recoop some of the cost by passing it along to us.
