Landen cannot do Milk, Soy or Rice Milk (the rice milk IS making him sick after all) he was refluxing, clearing his throat, painfully constipated and gassy and up all night, even with just SOME rice milk added to his Neocate. I remember him having major issues with Rice as a baby, so by trial and error, I am calling it an intolerance and moving on! We are still pending his blood allergy tests (hopefully Fri we will know more) but at this point his reflux is so flared up from the rice milk trial, I’ve moved him on to Neocate 1+ and plan to keep him on that til this summer, then maybe we’ll re-trail something else. Neocate is so expensive, but it’s not worth it to me to have a refluxing toddler who is miserable after I spent as long as I did getting his pain under control.

Just wanted to update everyone.

Too bad the rice made things worse for him. I know what that’s like though, Ben can’t have milk, soy or rice either. Down the road if you are looking for a non-formula milk replacement, there is a good one called DariFree. This is what Ben drinks. It is a potato based milk substitute that is fortified with Calcium, vitamin D, etc. and can be used in cooking and baking in place of milk as well.

thanks for posting that Sheri. I think we are down to trying that, or goat’s. I am going to order a can of that and try him on it when his stomach is OK again. He is refluxing SO bad now, the rice milk really messed him up. This morning I even got out his solutabs and thought…”should I” !?

I used to get insurance coverage on Neocate when we lived in FL through DH’s old insurance bennies. But back in Sept. 07, I lost my job due to Landen catching RSV and not able to go back to daycare for a month. We ended up moving and DH changed companies and our new ins. coverage doesn’t cover it at all.
