Thanks to everyone (and especially Laura). We are long from home free, but I finally feel like we are on track.
After a ridiculously horrible weekend in which my daughter screamed all night and all day, I scoured the local children’s hospital web site and found out there was a pediatric GI in my area after all. I called yesterday and they refused to see me without a referral, so I gathered my courage, called my pediatrician and she was surprisingly supportive (she had been trying so hard, I was afraid to tell her I wanted to see someone else). My mother in law thinks she may have been relieved to get some help.Anyway, they first told me the earliest appt. was a cancellation in 2 weeks, but then called my doctor to say that a doctor who was supposed to be on vacation today decided to come in, so we got in today. Seriously, I cannot believe how lucky we have been on this.Anyway, the GI was amazing. She suggested we move off the Prevacid to Zegerid mixed exactly according to MARCI guidelines. She also explained the insane up all night gas and straining bowel movements my daughter is having, and prescribed something for that. She was so calm and knowledgable about everything that I feel like I finally have someone who can really help. We start the Zegerid tonight, so wish us luck and pray it kicks in quickly. At least mixing it with the Mylanta gives her some immediate relief.April 1, 2008 at 11:37 pm #49740AnonymousInactiveWow, a doc that actually said to do the mylanta mixture and rx the dose per Marci?? that is amazing. i have to do this behind my doc’s back, which i feel guilty not telling her about. we just started Zeg too as u can c from my post. let us know how it goes! so glad that u got in today.

April 2, 2008 at 12:29 pm #49755AnonymousInactiveYAY , I am loving all of these happy posts of babies getting better!!
April 3, 2008 at 3:24 pm #49833AnonymousInactiveOh that’s really great, and I too am a bit shocked that a doc. knew about the marci-kid info, etc. That’s great to hear though.
April 3, 2008 at 7:36 pm #49842AnonymousInactiveThe GI honestly never referenced MARCI kids, but she did have the Mylanta mixing instructions, and when I got home, I checked the dosage she gave against the dosage calculator on the MARCI kids site and it was within the dosage amounts recommended.
She did say we would start with this dosage and slowly wean back over time, so we will see how it goes.Right now, I just feel like I have a new kid on my hands. I couldn’t believe it- she was actually cooing today– cooing! And two nights in a row she has slept through to 5 a.m. Seriously- we used to wake up at 1 and every 30 minutes thereafter. I really hope we are on the right track.April 4, 2008 at 12:04 am #49858AnonymousInactiveSounds like your GI did her homework if she had Mylanta mixing instructions. My GI told me not to do this. Glad to hear that your girl is feeling better already and that you can get some rest.
April 11, 2008 at 3:59 pm #50221AnonymousInactiveI suggested that mixture and it was shot down immediately. I’m glad that it worked for you. I love good news, keep it coming!
April 23, 2008 at 11:01 am #50727AnonymousInactiveThat is great, what did she give you for the night gas and straining BM’s?
ThanksKarenApril 23, 2008 at 9:47 pm #50752AnonymousInactiveWell…it was a couple of things.
For the gas, she gave us Levsin which is supposed to relax her and that way she will let it go. It works really well on the gas, but not so well on the poop. For that she had us doing suppositories at first, but (thankfully) now we are using a little bit of Miralax and pear juice/water.This part we are still working on because she still doesn’t go every day like the GI wants, but she does go most days. We are still up a lot at night, though. It’s hard to explain- it’s better but only about 60% better.I swear I have a Darwin baby because the Levsin was a miracle drug at first, but it seems to be working less lately. Everything we do works for a little while, but then seems to rebound a bit. -
