http://www.marci-kids.com should answer your questions about zegerid& I’m sure others will chime in as well…it’s a packet that you mix with water & mylanta cherry supreme- some also use tums instead of the mylantadr philips from marci kids can help youhang in there…March 26, 2008 at 8:56 pm #49420AnonymousInactiveI would get the 40 mg. packs. You mix each pack with 6.5 mls of water to get a 4mg/ml suspension of a total of 10 mls. You then add Mylanta to that. Laura’s right that the marci-kids site is the best place to go for info on it. I hope it works for you. It saved our lives!!

can u tell me why mylanta is added to Zegerid? i asked my new GI about it, and she said not to mix w/mylanta, that it might affect absorption. also, Cole is only on 1mg/mL. i add 20ml of water to the 40mg packet. i was thinking of waiting the 2weeks on this dose and the increasing if i don’t c improvemt. i know it is low in comparison, but that is what the GI rxed.March 27, 2008 at 8:39 am #49430AnonymousInactiveHi Sorry not to sound stupid. I’m a little confused is the packet last for one dose or 28 days? I’m assuming one dose? also how much water to add then if you break down the system you use little slow at this one! I called a pharmacy they said mix it 30 ml thought that was alot? DON’T WORRY I DON’T HAVE ZEREGRID. I just want to know, so when i go to the GI. i don’t get shot down like last time. I think the GI doesn’t know either honestly. I worry if the priolsec is being compounded correctly here in NY only one pharmacy will do it he refuses to go through the insurance but my son needs it. venting thanks-Danielle
March 27, 2008 at 2:08 pm #49459AnonymousInactiveOk, I’m not sure I understand all the questions.. but, the actual Zegerid package directions tell you to mix it with more water than Marci-kids suggests. So, the GI is probably going off of that. However, Marci-kids suggests mixing it at the 4mg/ml suspension so you don’t have to give so much of it at one time (this means adding 6.5 mls of water to the pack to get a total of 10 mls at a 4mg/1ml suspension). It’s hard enough getting a little bit of the med. in them, so giving only a few mls is better.
Now, you have to add the Mylanta because the 40 mg. packs do not have enough of the sodium bicarb to keep the medicine from being immediately eaten up by the stomach acid. The sodium acts as a “buffer” that allows the medicine to work properly. So, you add the Mylanta (the buffer) and the medicine can then work. also, the mylanta helps with gas and helps the medicine to taste better. The 40 mg. pack can last for 28 days in a stable suspension BUT it depends on your lo’s dose how long it will last for you. In other words, it’s good for 28 days BUT, your little one may only need 30 mgs/day, so then it would actually last more than a day for you. Does that make sense?Ben, my son, was on 48 mg/day at one point, so we were using more than one pack per day. Now, he is only getting 8 mgs/day, so the pack (once mixed) lasts us longer.Let me know if that doesn’t make sense!!Bensmama2008-03-27 14:09:40
March 27, 2008 at 10:04 pm #49496AnonymousInactiveThanks so much !!!!!!!!!!We are using Priolsec but I worry if it is really being made right. i did ask to do it the way Marci suggested. although I got thats ” what I do” but my gut tells me another not like i can be there watching him! We tried prevacid broke out in a rash plus my baby has milk allergy. I just want to make sure he is getting the medication the right thanks so much will push again the GI said no but isn’t the same thing?-Danielle

I agree that giving less mls is better bc it is tough giving Cole this med. His gag reflex is really sensitive so I have to go very slowly, syringing a tiny bit at a time and letting him swallow.I’ll go ahead and up COle’s dose although I don’t know if I’m ready to up it to 4mg/ml. I would like to go up a slower, like 2-3mg/ml, but I don’t know how many mls to give him. I’m not good at these things.I’m confused still, I got the directions from Dr. P, but he says to give 6.3mls at 1 dosing, that is more than the 4ml at a time that I’m giving currently. I just looked at the site, does it mean to give 2mls at one dosing?I still cannot find mylanta supreme. I’ve found Mylanta Cherry Ultimate Strength. Is this the right one? Does it have 500mg of alum hydrox and 500 mg sulfate? Argh, can’t find it!! Looked in Walmart too. -
