OK,
So I am back with an update. It has been crazy here. McKenzie is scheduled with a GI on the 31st because my ped can’t up her meds any more than she has (She has been great though…she even called the GI and made them bump my appointment up.) Anyway, I have a real quick question for ya’ll. McKenzie had a really bad mucousy poop one day followed by one with a tiny bit of blood in it. My Dr. had me take out wheat/dairy/soy/peanuts/treenuts/gluten for two weeks. So McKenzie still has mucousy poops one plus weeks into this…so my question is does the mucousy poop always mean an intolerance/allergy or could something else just be going on. She does seem a bit better without that stuff in my diet, but I think that might be more from the meds…she is a great napper (if she is on her tummy on my bed…I know I stay up in the room with her) and nights are pretty good for a 7 week old baby…what do ya’ll think?March 21, 2008 at 8:44 pm #49238AnonymousInactiveHmmm… I tend to think that mucousy poops mean that something is going on. It’s so hard to know though….
March 21, 2008 at 9:23 pm #49243AnonymousInactiveI would tend to think that something is still bothering her too. I guess you could always try the TED and see if that helps. But, what form of medicine is she on? I think I remember Brianna was on the solutab. Is that what McKenzie is using? If so, then maybe she is reacting to the lactose in the solutab. Several moms have posted about that lately… mucousy and sometimes greenish poo… Just a thought.

March 22, 2008 at 4:15 pm #49262AnonymousInactiveyeah, my gut says it could be the prevacid as well…I am going to try to get the GI doc to switch her to nexium or prilosec, but my ped can’t do that because of the pharmacy she has to send prescriptions too (HMO…kind of limited) but if the GI doc says I need it I can…anyway, I will keep ya’ll posted. I am keeping all the major allergens out of my diet, but my ped doesn’t want me to go any further because since there isn’t been any more blood she isn’t worried…
March 26, 2008 at 4:50 pm #49393AnonymousInactiveI just thought I would update about McKenzie…we are going to our Ped on Friday and she is actually going to do allergy bloodwork on McKenzie so we can put some of those questions to rest…please keep this in your prayers as I am very nervous about it because I guess it requires a lot of blood. Also, has anyone ever heard of Mylanta causing bad tummy problems with LO…whenever I give it to McKenzie she immediatly calms down, but it seems later on that she is even more uncomfortable. I had stopped giving it to her and she seemed to do better but these past few days have been kind of rough so today I did give her 1/4 of a Pepcid complete. Anyway, to be long and drawn out, could the Mylanta be causing these poops? My gut still says the prevacid…but her poops aren’t green they are normal color…anyway, thank you for listening to my rant. 😉
March 26, 2008 at 5:22 pm #49394AnonymousInactiveWe don’t have Mylanta here in Canada, but we have a Maalox liquid that is similar. Every time I gave it to Paige she would have mucousy stools the next day. I think she was reacting to the artificial color or flavour in it.
I hope everything goes smoothly for you and McKenzie on Friday. That is GREAT that they are doing the bloodwork testing for allergies. So many peds and allergists only do the skin testing.March 26, 2008 at 8:16 pm #49416AnonymousInactiveAlex had the blood testing done at nine months. It was a lot of blood, but it was definitely worth it for us. If it’s possible, try to have someone who specializes in pediatrics draw the blood. It made a huge difference for Alex.
March 26, 2008 at 9:01 pm #49421AnonymousInactiveYES! We had to stop using the Mylanta along with Ben’s Zegerid because it caused him to have bad gas.. can’t say for sure that it caused the mucus in his stool, but it’s likely. We ended up using the dissolvable Tums instead. You could try to dissolve some in water and syring it to her instead of the Mylanta. Just watch as some of them contain milk. We normally used the Tropical Fruit flavor.
March 28, 2008 at 3:00 pm #49518AnonymousInactiveWell we had the blood test done today…I must admit Mckenzie was a champ…it was more traumatic for mommy I think in the end. It is funny, she eats like crazy, but still isn’t really gaining weight….the mucous is sitll in her poops some, but not bad since I stopped the Mylanta…I mean she isn’t losing weight, but she only gained 6-7 ounces in two weeks and this time when she was weighted she had a huge wet diaper on (my Ped doesn’t make you weigh naked unless it is a well baby. Anyway, my Ped wouldn’t increase the meds but we have the GI appointment on Monday so at least it is soon. I think she needs to be on a different med and she will do better. It is funny, I have all the major allergens out of my diet and she still has the mucousy poops and no matter how I burp her she seems to always have air bubbles in her, but I think that is more related to reflux. At least with the test results back I can go back to more normal food. 🙂
