Has anyone with MSPI ever had problems with the Solutabs? I am 99% sure that my ds is milk allergic (has not been tested yet) and I have been off dairy since he was 5 wks old. We had to put him on the Solutabs to control his reflux and he has since developed eczema and green mucousy stools. The ped swears that there is no way it could be related since lactose is not a milk protein, but when we switched him to Zegerid the mucus cleared. He did terribly on the Zegerid though, so we switched him back. Has anyone else ever had trouble with the solutabs?

No, my daughter has been on solutabs for over a week with great results. She’s on 7.5mg/ x3 daily. No side effects (knock on wood) yet. We just placed her on Nutramigen because of a suspected MSPI, but she won’t be able to see the gastro Dr. until the end of April. I’ve heard that milk proteins can flare up an existing eczema issue, maybe soy proteins can do the same… is your DS on soy or a hypoallergenic formula?

Our ped GI swore the same thing, but Kaelyn’s eczema didn’t clear up totally until we took her off of the solutabs. So, who knows?

Did you put her on something else?

What form of zegerid was he on? Some babies do better with the 40mg packets instead of the 20mg. You have to add a buffer to the 40mg packets (either mylanta or tums). Mylanta can cause major gas/diarrhea so some moms found better luck with Tums. Sorry if I’m repeating anything…I just briefly read the other posts.

Not right away… we actually didn’t stop using them until we were ready to wean her off of them, so she was on them from 4 weeks old until she was 16 months old. By that time we had already cut all allergic foods from her diet and she still had lingering eczema. Within a week of stopping the solutabs, the last of her rashes were gone!

A while later she started having reflux issues again so we tried zantac as a stopgap measure and it worked for her. She’s now off all reflux meds again except mylanta for the rare bad night.
