i am the mommy of a two month old baby boy. He was diagnosed at two weeks with severe reflux. He was then put on 7.5 mg of prevacid which i now know is to low. At his two month check up the doctor raised it to 15 mg split into two doses through out the day and added zantac to be taken twice a day. Well he is still very fussy and crying nearly all day. He also started having big globs of mucous in his stool. What is going on? Will he ever get some relief? I am about to loose my mind I feel so bad for him I just wish I could help him more. Also are than any good products for reflux on the market that I should buy Thanks
March 5, 2008 at 8:48 am #48819AnonymousInactiveThe mucous in his stool is what I would be concerned with now. There is probably something in his diet (or yours if you are breastfeeding) that is bothering him. If you are breastfeeding, I would eliminate all dairy (even hidden dairy…read labels because dairy seems to be hidden everywhere!). And, if he is on a milk or soy based formula, I would consider switching him to Nutramigen or something similiar. But be aware that it can take several week for the offending protein to leave the body causing symptoms long after it is removed from his diet. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. I was on a very strict diet while breastfeeding my daughter. Oh, also, I would stop eating out for awhile…dairy is in almost every fast food or restaurant menu item…french fries, chicken, burgers, etc.
March 5, 2008 at 5:28 pm #48833AnonymousInactivewent to the dr today they advised me its time to move on to a pedi g i. they explained to me they heard lots of noise in his belly and they thought he might benifit from a drug that relaxes the stomach whatever that is so hopefully he will be feeling better soon
March 7, 2008 at 3:08 pm #48889AnonymousInactiveMy doctor prescribed Reglan and Zantac for my daughter and they seemed to work really well together. I also use Little Tummy’s for gas relief.mommyof2childre2008-03-07 15:12:22
March 8, 2008 at 8:22 am #48896AnonymousInactiveare you breastfeeding? the moucous conecrns me. He might be reacting to something you are eating. If he is on fomrula,; he might be reacting to the whole milk protein and might need a more break down formula.
i hope he feels better soon.LeoMarch 8, 2008 at 10:22 pm #48901AnonymousInactiveI agree with Tracy and Leo, and suspect something in his diet (whether from formula or breast feeding) is causing some problems. My daughter Paige had (and still has) a TERRIBLE time processing anything with milk proteins, or even partial milk proteins. There were times that she would have BMs that were almost entirely mucus. This stopped when we got all forms of milk protein out of her diet.
As the above moms mentioned, it would be worthwhile to cut all sources of dairy out of your diet if you are breastfeeding or switch to a “hypoallergenic” formula if formula feeding, to see if he improves (like Nutramigen or Alimentum).Good luck, I hope you find the answers for your little guy soon!March 9, 2008 at 3:53 am #48906AnonymousInactiveI also think it may be something im eating. I mainly breastfeed and when I go out he drinks the nutramigin. Toinight He throw up a little mucous. I have yet to see any relief. he is very fussy and bobs his head alot I can hear the liquid coming up. I feel so bad hopefully the GI will shed some light on how we can get him to feel better. I am just confused the meds should be helping but it seems like there not.
March 9, 2008 at 9:34 am #48907hellbenntKeymasterI would try eliminating all milk & soy fron your diet, even hidden milk & soy proteins (you ned to really look at ingredients)- try this for 3 weeks & see if there’s improvement…
March 9, 2008 at 1:41 pm #48910AnonymousInactivearew you seeing a pedactric gi? mucus in the stool i think is caused by a milk allergy but am not certain. you should really go to a specialist or call them about the stool! good luck!
March 10, 2008 at 9:05 am #48924AnonymousInactiveMy son also had mucous and blood in his stool. I was breastfeeding at the time and my doctor suggested I go on a non-dairy diet. Believe it or not, there is dairy in almost everything besides fruits and veggies. My son is now solely on Nutramigen because I could not maintain the diet. He has been much happier ever since. I was very sad to stop breatfeeding because I did it with my daughter until she was 10 months old. But my son’s stools immediately cleared up and he isn’t cranky anymore.
