Hello again,
We’re getting closer to 12 mos & DD is eating more food food & nursing less & less. I want to be prepared for the time when she needs to be on something besides boob juice. She’s just at 10 mos now.
When given milk based fomulas she vomited (out her nose too) & got a rash/foamy mustard diarrea. Soy fomulas just gave her a rash. She had blood tests/stool tests & showed inflamation in the intestines re: mPSI. So Ped thinks she is allergic to milk. To what extent we don’t know. I try to keep her from ingesting too much via my BM and in the food she eats.Which brings me to my original question. She loooves Rice milk (enriched) & tolerates the tase of Goat milk. When is it ok to start offering sippy’s of whatever kind of milk? I want to make sure she is getting enough nutrients. My older DD has NO issues, ate like a champ and was on whole milk at 10 months.WWYD? I don’t want to have to switch her to say a hypo formula if she gives up BF & then have to wean her off of it too KWIM?Thanks! If you do rice/goats milk, you may need to add some fats (flax seed oil or olive oil) to make up where it is lacking. I am sure some of the other moms who are using these milks will chime in. Best of Luck.

we use half goats half rice..and add olive oil to his bottles whenever we can…we also give goats yogurt.i think i would start the transition closer to 12 mos as possible..let me know if you have any questions!February 28, 2008 at 2:36 pm #48698AnonymousInactiveIf you are BF’ing you could also pump or use extra milk and mix with goat or rice– if you want to go to the work of it and then use a sippy. I wouldn’t go with hypo if you’ve made it this far for one the expense and two the taste is horrible. My son hated the taste of hypo and then didn’t take anything for awhile. We ended up adding goats milk and my pedi said no more than 30 percent goat milk as a supplement. I would try to hold off until 1 yr of switching b/c that somehow is that magical time when they start to tolerate it better and then go with everyone else suggestions about going it slow.

March 1, 2008 at 4:08 pm #48744hellbenntKeymasteras far as breastfeeding- she’s most likely getting ‘enough’ nutrition by eating whatever it is she’s eating. what I mean is that w/ both my boys, by 12 months I was ‘down’ to just 2 nursing sessions a day. I didn’t introduce cow’s milk until 12 months. what I would think is perhaps the issue is calcium (if of course the baby is eating a healthy diet)? I only am typing out loud here, as I am recalling the situation w/ Jonah- he would not drink any real substantial amount of cow’s milk (he was not mspi) until he was about 18 months. the ped said it was ok as long as he ate other dairy products. now, w/ a 12 month MSPI little one, I would think that you’d need to find other sources of calcium…Tums for sure has calcium!
but really there are other foods, like broccoli…I seem to recall there being a post about this- it was HEIDI’s post- go look through either this forum (MSPI) or the Elimination Diet Forum & you’ll find it– key words to look for: ‘Reidun’s’ ____ ‘information’HTH (hope this helps)~lauraMarch 1, 2008 at 9:30 pm #48751AnonymousInactivelaura is right..
it is a challenge though, if you have a picky toddler..you have to make up for fats..protien and calcium that they would nrmally be getting from cows milk or a full fat milk.so… we add the fats to the rice milk… and to any other food that we can..and we make sure he eats a lot of nuts and meat for the protien.if you decide at 12 months that you need to limit her diet..feel free to contact me with any questions..March 8, 2008 at 10:46 pm #48903AnonymousInactiveThank you again. I did a little unscientific testing & she gat a rash immediately w/ cow milk, 1 hive & the diarrea. Soy gave her the prickly rash on her face that she always gets.
Guess she’s still allergic.I still nurse her 4 times & she eats chkn, turkey, fruit, bread rolls. But shes sooo picky some days. 3 days this week all she would eat was toast & buttered pasta noodles. Period!I suppose her body tells her what she needs. I’ll check out that other post too. Thanks! TrinaMarch 9, 2008 at 9:39 am #48908hellbenntKeymasterbuttered pasta as in w/ cow’s milk butter?
March 14, 2008 at 12:13 am #48992AnonymousInactiveOh no, not cow milk, margarine. I call everything “butter”!
