Hi again,
After reading the great responses to a question about my son Connor’s issues with his medication and doctor’s lack of attention to his reflux I went to MARCI and saw that he could be taking up to 21-27mg a day. His doc. prescribed him only 7 mg a day and will not budge on upping the dosage. After almost losing it with her on the phone, I called the GI clinic at Children’s Hospital where he has been several times in his 8 months. They will not do anything until we come back in for an appt. which thankfully we were able to get in next week Friday. However, in the meantime we are out of Prevacid since I started giving him the 15 mg solutab, broken in half, twice a day for a total of 15 mg a day. As I mentioned my doctor will not and does not feel comfortable upping the dosage, shunning my research on MARCI, saying unless he is 10kg she cannot up the dosage. So does anyone have any suggestions? I will say that since I started a week ago giving him 15 mg a day his spitting up lessend greatly in volume and occurences. I called Walgreens to see when I can refill my prescription and it is not until the 25th. I am totally and completely at a loss here?!?!?!?!February 12, 2008 at 5:39 pm #48174AnonymousInactivecould you try faxing the marci info to the doctor’s office? Just tell her that you gave him the extra Prevacid and how much he improved on that dose. Tell her that you are out of it, and that he is in pain. Ask her, nicely, of coure, to read through the info.
I know that Dr. Phillips from Marci has even called doctors to discuss this with them when the need arose. Maybe see if he would be willing to contact her?February 12, 2008 at 5:58 pm #48177AnonymousInactiveI know this sounds rude….pffffft @ that dr!…but sometimes I feel like being rude with the dr’s who just won’t listen to what I’m telling them.
I went to the MARCI site, checked Xavier’s dose, realized that he was WAY underdosed (big surprise) and then changed his dose myself to what the calculator said he should be getting. THEN I called his pediatrician and told her what dose I had him on and explained where the information came from. She was not at all pleased that I’d changed his dose on my own…until she saw him a month later and “Wow! What an amazing change in him!!!”I hope you can get her to come on board with your son’s care. I know it’s difficult for many of the dr’s to get conflicting information about dosing for these drugs, but you’d think they’d at least be willing to take it into consideration. The information’s out there if they’d just look.February 12, 2008 at 6:06 pm #48178AnonymousInactiveI feel so angry with my doctor. She will not listen to what I say and told me that I can’t trust what I read on the Internet. At that point I was holding back my tears and the lump in my throat. I was at the point of being rude with her, but she will not budge. I would like to continue his “upped dosage” on my own, but I am out of it. Maybe I will have my husband fax the MARCI info. on to her. Thanks!

At first I was worried about bothering him, but a friend of mine helped me to see that I was actually helping Dr. Phillips too. You could give it a try. I’m not sure if he does it anymore, but it’s worth a try. Really worth it. Look at this way you would be helping other moms and babies by getting your dr. on board with the marci-kids dosages and info.
