Hi all! This is my first post. I’m not sure if my son has reflux or not- I posed a question on another forum and one of the moms suggested I look into it. Here’s the story:
My son is 15 months old. When he was an infant he could not tolerate normal formula so we had to put him on Nutramigen, the hypoallergenic and lactose-free stuff, and he was just fine. Then we started him on jar food, and he was fine until we got to stage 2 and 3. He is now on whole milk and is eating lots of other foods and the only jar food he’s on is meats, but is still having problems.
He seems to throw up a lot. It used to be just when he was full and if you tried to feed him anymore he’d puke, or if you’d try to feed him cold foods (applesauce, ice cream) he’d puke, or if you’d try to feed him something new that had a different texture or something. It seems like he’ll gag on it first, though, so I didn’t know if maybe he was just having issues with chewing.
Anyway, now it’s happening on foods he knows and likes and that aren’t cold or crunchy, and even when he’s not really all that full. I guess it doesn’t happen ALL the time, and he definitely goes through spells where he does it more often, but when he’s going through a spell it’ll happen 3-4 times a week.
I don’t know if he has reflux, chewing issues, just a wicked gag reflex, or what. Sorry this is so long! I’m hoping some of you experienced refluxers out there can let me know if these symptoms are associated with reflux or if I should look elsewhere. He’s not due to go back for another WellBaby visit until March, he’s not doing it daily and he’s not losing weight or anything so I don’t feel like it’s an immediate concern. I just thought I’d check with you all! Thanks!

Is he in any pain? If not, then I am not sure they would treat the reflux if it was that and it definitely could be. Gag reflex came to mind when reading your post. Have you seen an ENT? Wonder if the tonsils/adenoids are big and making him gag. also, I think I would see the ENT as they may suggest a swallow study or something. Is he a loud breather when he is sleeping? or does he snore?I am not sure I am being of any help here, but other moms will chime in soon!January 24, 2008 at 10:40 am #47640AnonymousInactiveHe doesn’t seem to be in any pain at all- it really doesn’t seem to phase him in the least! He’s not really a loud breather or a snorer, very rarely and usually only when he’s got a cold. We have not seen an ENT. So far the general consensus is that “He’s just teething” or “He just has texture issues”. I’ll definitely mention that when we go back in March!
Thanks!January 24, 2008 at 10:47 am #47641AnonymousInactiveIf you don’t hear loud snoring or loud breathing, then probably not the tonsils/adenoids…… I’m not sure, but glad that he is not in pain!!!
