Hi Everyone,
I haven’t been on in awhile, back to work!!Adriana is going to have the upper endoscopy done in a few weeks and I am scared to death. She has had allergy testing and is allergic to milk and eggs. She is on 7.5 mg of Prevacid. The GI is concerned that she has not put on much weight since she was 6 months old. She weighs 18 pounds. He also said that she should not have to be on the Prevacid anymore because any lesions in the esophagus should have healed after a few months on it. (She has been getting it prescribed from her pediatrician) Does that make sense? I told him she still refluxes , which he questioned me as to how do I know that she is refluxing, and she has restless sleep.Anyways, I am scared and wanted to get some feedback from all of you because you helped me so much when she was a baby. Thanks!!December 25, 2007 at 9:10 pm #46683AnonymousInactivethe scope is really not a big deal. 4 of my kids have had one and i have had one myself—-i don’t remember a thing. the ped gi even let me stay in and watch when one of the twins had her scope.

What also was good for us, was that it answered a lot of questions about the fears that I had, like did she have esophagitis, EE, etc. It was easy for her as well, and gave lots of good info. Try not to worry.
Just a question… did she have any symptoms of allergies other than the reflux? I’m wondering b/c I’ve wondered if Hailey has allergies as she still has reflux at 2.5 but her doc told me that allergy testing wouldn’t be reliable at this age as she is under 3 (false positives, or something like that) and if she had real allergies then we’d know about it?About the how do I know if she’s refluxing, we’ve had the same question. I used to say that sometimes it actually comes out, and other times I can hear it. The doc told me that you can’t hear it, it must be behavioural. Well now that she’s 2.5 and quite verbal, she can tell me about it, so I’d tell the doc to kiss my butt!December 26, 2007 at 1:20 pm #46695AnonymousInactiveIt’s funny that your doctor said that you can’t hear it. Our GI agreed with us that you absolutely could hear (and feel) Kaelyn’s. It’s weird that doctors can have such wildly varying ideas on the same topic.
Try not to worry about the endoscopy. I actually wish that we’d had one done for both girls. As Lori said, it helps answer some questions and maybe will help give you peace of mind.December 26, 2007 at 1:55 pm #46701AnonymousInactive[QUOTE=pkkb]It’s funny that your doctor said that you can’t hear it. Isn’t it amazing how different drs. are and stupid they make you feel and then you come on here and other moms tell of what their drs said and it all makes sense. Our gi dr who I didin’t like, but agree with on this said, ” when you have an allergy your body doesn’t want it to go out the approiate way and it will sometimes come up” I know I’m not at all explaining it correctly because i was in a haze when he was talking to me. Anyway, I’ve had people say that is crazy, but I am allergic to dairy and beef and only have reflux when I have those things. I think they say now that about 80% not sure if that percentage is right, but a very high percentage of babies that have reflux have allergies that are causing the reflux. If you can figure out what those are then in those cases you can get the reflux to go away too.For us we knew our second son had reflux mainly because of his dry cough. As soon as he started with that I knew for sure. I do believe though that i could hear it come up too.December 26, 2007 at 10:31 pm #46711AnonymousInactiveThanks for your replies.
As far as her allergies. With milk she always got very fussy and had trouble sleeping (falling asleep and staying asleep), even as an infant. The eggs were positive in her first blood test, positive in the skin prick, but negative in the second blood test. She never ate them much before that. The allergist said that the sleep problems are not related to allergies, but I beg to differ. I know it was not just a coincidence that every time we did a milk trial she stayed up until 1:00AM.I am going to keep it together for the EDG! I know it will be helpful.Oh, can the EDG tell us anything about her reflux? Sometimes I wonder if she still has it or if it’s just me.December 26, 2007 at 10:58 pm #46714AnonymousInactiveWe had the scope done in July, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. We had the Ph Probe put in wile he was still out of it, that’s what told us how bad the reflux is, but after our GI said she saw some damage from the reflux with the scope too.
