Wednesday evening I starting slowly adding in Nutramigen to Landen’s Neocate to try and transition him. As of today we are up to about 75% Nutramigen and 25% Neocate. Landen has been reflux free for about a month and I have not noticed anything new since adding the Nutramigen other than exessive gas. Sometimes he cries a little, then passes gas and goes on about his playing. Is this normal or should I take it as a sign that he isn’t ready? Did anyone else experience this and then do ok? I don’t want to give up too fast but I don’t want proteins to build up in him either. I’ve had a few people say that maybe his body is just adjusting to switch.
Any suggestions?December 23, 2007 at 8:01 am #46654AnonymousInactiveHey Jill,
I am about to try a switch from Nutramigen to Gentelease so I understand your concerns. I am planning on going way slow on the transition. My plan is to do 2oz of Gentelease per bottle for about 2 weeks and then up it to 4oz per bottle for 2wks and then up to 6oz so it should take me about 4-6 wks to get Cooper totally switched, I figure the slower the better so you may want to keep him where he is for a week or so and then add more Nutramigen… I know the Neocate is so expensive and being able to not have to pay for that will be a blessing for you , but you may want to go slower to make sure he is doing okay. I hope this goes well for you.December 23, 2007 at 9:18 am #46659AnonymousInactiveWe did neocate to whole milk as Owen just turned 1 in October. About 6 weeks ago, maybe longer, I did the switch. I did it pretty fast like within a week and a half he was to whole milk only. He did fine. A little bit of constipation, but I gave him pear juice and he was fine. I would maybe have done it a little slower in hindsight, but I think if it was going to be a problem, he would be really fussy by now? I think the gassy stuff is probably adjustment……. At least I hope for you!!!
December 23, 2007 at 10:51 am #46661AnonymousInactiveI tried to PM you, but your box is full., so I will awnser you here….SO I as well as the others went really slow. !/2 oz of good start to a 5oz bottle of nutramigen for a few days and then went up by 1/2 oz every few days there after until it was all good start which actually was just yesterday!!! Aiden has done really well. No issues, reflux is not worse (he still has symptoms), no gas, diahrrea, blood, extra fussiness etc. I am really happy about that. and hope landon does well also. It took me about a month to do it all. I also started with yogurt a week or so beofre I started, so he had a little dairy in him before I started the formual switch.
Glad these guys are doing better!!! I just wish AIden did not still have symptoms. I was hoping 9 months was the magic grow out of it mark….well ,maybe a year…..debDecember 23, 2007 at 11:07 am #46662AnonymousInactiveThank you all!
His only side effect has been gas! A little fussing when a gas bubble comes but he can let it go (LOL) no problem then resume playing. I wonder if I just went to fast adding in the nutramigen? I then wonder if he’d do better on Alimentum or even soy? ugggh. Guessing! I will keep you all updated! Also– I am so glad Aiden is doing great on his transition! Thanks for trying to PM me. I cleaned out my inbox!Beth, I hope Cooper does great on Gentlease. These formulas are not cheap!January 6, 2008 at 7:58 am #47008AnonymousInactiveJust an update– we failed this trial. But that is ok. I have a reflux free baby. I am elated about that! He’s still under a year. We’ll try again at 13 mos with alimentum, soy or goats milk. Thanks for your help and support.
January 6, 2008 at 9:04 am #47009AnonymousInactiveJill,
So sorry to hear the trial failed. How did you decide that it failed? Cooper has been getting some Gentlease since the 1st… I changed my plan and for 3 days added 2 oz to one bottle and today is our 3rd day of 2oz to 2 bottles and then I am going to added 2oz to 3 bottles for 3 days and advance 2 oz every 3 days until we are at our goal which should take about 5 wks total….He still spits some and has been cranky, but he is cutting a tooth so I am chalking that up to the teething and not the formula. Just curious what you experienced. Thanks
January 7, 2008 at 9:36 pm #47079AnonymousInactiveSo sorry the trial failed, but hang in there. We failed our Prevacid weaning trail at around 9 months, and I was very upset thinking she’d be on meds & dairy/soy free forever. Dagney is now almost 16 months, has been down 1 dose of prevacid since 12 months, on soy milk since around 13 months, and we’re now working on yogurt. I have a feeling in my gut that we could probably cut out more or all of the prevacid too, but we need to do one thing at a time. I’m glad that you’re not too upset, because it will happen!!
January 8, 2008 at 8:00 am #47092AnonymousInactiveHey Beth!
I hope Cooper is doing good on the Gentlease! It sounds like it’s going good so far. Teething sucks. Landen’s only got 2 teeth though! LOL!With Landen, he first had a lot of gas and then would stop playing and turn beet red, cry with stomach pains ans sweat and I realized that he was having severe stomach cramping. Then he started having some silent refluxing again (mildly so) but he had outgrown it and I realizded that milk protein was probably building back up. He just isn’t ready. From what I’ve read, some babies with landen’s severity of MSPI (visible and occult blood as a small baby) need that window of time between 9-13 months to conitue outgrowing the intolerance…and sometimes longer. It sucks, but I am trying to be positive about it. We may try alimentum shortly after he turns 1.Denise, thanks for the encouraging words! The success stories keep me going!! Sounds like Dagney is doing great!jilly782008-01-08 08:02:53
