InactiveCooper is about to be a year old, and we will test for soy and other things at that time ( already did milk ). I was just wondering if anyone had any luck with goat’s milk? It seems like it has some + and –
Is it worth trialing before soy? Is there an allergy test for goats milk??Thanks,TinaDecember 15, 2007 at 11:37 am #46403InactiveBryce is on partial goat’s milk and has done really well with it. I think it would be worth trying. If he doesn’t seem to do well with it, you could always go back. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

we do the regular whole goats milk that comes in the carton at the cold section in the health food store. and the other half is enriched rice milk. this is how i introduced it to him and i decided to keep it like this for a couple of reasons. one, is so he might be able to digest it better if its “watered down and not full goats milk” and two is because its a little cheaper 😉 and three because he is doing good this way and why change it 😉 ?there is no test for goats milk.. only cows milk (that i know of). shanes came up slightly positive for cows.. plus he gets excema from cows and NOT from goats.i think heather gives bryce half soy formula if i am correct.. if i am right i have a great memory 😉anyhow, i would do goats milk over soy if i were you. i think goats milk is a great milk if you had to chose from the milks.. here is dr. sears article on goats milk http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/t032400.asp . you can also read up on the other milks and formulas through his website.hope this helps!December 15, 2007 at 3:02 pm #46413InactiveYes, we use 1/3 goat’s milk and 2/3 Goodstart soy. When Bryce was on breastmilk we would fortify it with goat’s milk powder for extra calories. When we weaned him from breastmilk we tried to go to goat’s milk but he couldn’t tolerate 100% (I think goat’s milk has a lot of protein). We then tried the goodstart soy formula and he did fine with that. We use part goat’s milk formula mainly because it’s cheaper than the formula. He does well with the combo. (He has a feeding tube, by the way, so that’s why he has to be on formula still at age 2).
December 15, 2007 at 10:02 pm #46420InactiveWe did goat’s milk with Neocate. I did Myenburg’s powdered b/c my son would not take straight Neocate and I swear it was the taste although my Dr. disagreed.
But anyway, I did it about 60% formula 40% goat milk to start and then ended up about 50/50 and ended up staying with that until he was 1 and we trialed whole cow milk right away and he did fine.
December 16, 2007 at 10:17 pm #46435InactiveAbby has been on goat’s milk since about 14months. We transitioned her from Neocate. She tested postive for milk and soy intolerance and I didn’t want her to have to stay on Neocate forever. She has done great on it! We do full strength.
AndreaDecember 19, 2007 at 10:24 pm #46565InactiveHmmm…Ariella’s doing ok with whole regular cow’s milk. The only thing is that her stool is very hard and is light colored. Could it be the reaction to the milk?? I’ve heard that whole milk can be constipating (due to lots of calories).
December 20, 2007 at 7:59 am #46571InactiveMy oldest dd had a horrible time when she went on whole cow’s milk. She was constipated all the time and horribly hard stool. She ended up on Miralax. Years later when we took her to an allergist he said that the #1 sign of a milk allergy is constipation. I knew this was the problem b/c it started right when we switched from formula.
December 20, 2007 at 9:34 am #46577Inactivehmm marianna.. its up to you then.. she doesnt sound to be doing terrible.. but it could be better.. i love everything i have read and experienced with goats milk…so i am all for it 😉
but hopefully if you decided to try it she would transition well to it, and the taste difference wouldnt be toooo different!!shanesmom2007-12-20 09:36:29
